    1. GROAT--Roll call
    2. Audrey Growt
    3. I am looking for the parents and siblings of EBENEZER GROAT. He was born about 1800 and married Rhoda Stone daughter of Simon Stone and Anna Schoolcraft. I have found all of their children but cannot get beyond Ebenezer to trace the family. He lists himself as Eng/Can on census records and I believe they were Baptist. There are other Groat researchers but we cannot seem to connect our families. I have tried unsuccessfully to find a marriage certificate for Ebenezer and Rhoda or any birth certificates for their children-the oldest was born ca 1832. The Groat family probably came from the Standbridge Township area and the Stone family from Sutton. I would be interested in visiting with anyone from or familiar with the Quebec town of Bedford which is near the VT boarder. I live in WI on the Mississippi River. As you can see, the spelling of the name has changed over the years. Audrey Growt

    1. Roll Call, WOODROW, Stanstead (North Natley)
    2. Brian Hill
    3. Hi My main research is the WOODROW Family who lived in North Hatley. James arrived in Quebec in 1836 at age 16. Parents are unknown but believe that he came from Norfolk, England. He married Harriet PECK (b: 3 January 1821, daughter of Charles PECK and Maria NEASLING) on 6 October 1840 in Sherbrooke and settled in North Hatley. Their Children were Emeline (Eleazar W. MOFFAT), Charles (Lucy Jane HALL), Amorett (Albert YOUNG), Estella Marie (Charles KNIGHTS and Eugene BEAN). Other family names by marriage are: William AGON; Lula Mary CURRIER; William Edwin DIGBY; Leafey HARTWELL; Merritt LEBARON; Annie SHERRY; Fred WIDGER; Orlando WOODROW; Era WOODROW; Thanks Brian in Brampton, Ontario [email protected]

    1. Roll call - Schoolcraft, Boomhower, Sisco, Medor
    2. David J. Ellis
    3. My main focus in the ET is Schoolcraft and Boomhower, although Sisco and Medor occasional cross over from northern Vermont. Schoolcraft: The root for the QC families is Christian Schoolcraft and Elizabeth Margaret Becker. Ten children have been found, seven with extensive families in Quebec. The ancestral line can be traced into England and back to about 1620. Boomhower: The root for the QC families is Jacob Boomhower and Sarah Kimmel. Jacob was a German immigrant born in the 1720s. Some claim a lineage for him back as far as the late 1400s although, to the best of my knowledge, this is not proven. Three of their sons (Jacob, John and Walter) had extensive families in QC. Their mother, Sarah, on her second marriage also came to QC from NY, as did another son although that fourth son does not appear to have children. Other children remained in NY near Albany. Sisco: The Sisco families are mostly in Orleans Co., VT and Franklin Co., VT. Some of the Orleans Co. ones crossed into QC around Potton, Compton, Coaticook, etc. My main interest is on the Swanton VT families, one of whom is my wife's grandmother. The root of the Sisco line goes back through New Hampshire into Rhode Island circa 1720. Medor: The Medor family is mostly around Swanton and Highgate VT. The family is Abenaki and the name seems to have been changed to Medor from Cayie/Cahah´/Cajiais. My wife's gg-grandfather was Peter Cayie Medor born about 1803. I have not been able to trace farther back than about 1834 when the birth of his son, Medard Cahia, is indicated in St. Regis QC. ---- I am David Ellis, an expatriate Englishman from the edges of Dartmoor who married a girl from Bennington VT. We now live in New Hampshire. I got into this genealogical stuff as a favor to my mother-in-law who wanted to pass on the snippets she had from her own mother and grandmother to my wife. It seems that family details had been passed from youngest daughter to youngest daughter through several generations of the Medor family. Unfortunately, she had only very limited recall of useful facts so I had to do a lot of digging.

    2. Dutton Family
    3. Hi ; It is just very hard getting any kind of record out of Quebec, my husband's family is from there and it is a struggle - there is the language barrier to begin with, and then on top of that is animosity toward the US. If the ancestor was B/M/D before abt. 1900, the only records kept were by a Church or a Clergyman, and if not a Catholic, they are practically impossible to find , because most Clergy back then were like Circuit Riders and kept a small journal ,.... Cemeteries are the same, they are mostly maintained by local people and no written records are readily available, they are kept in a home. The Historical Societies are a partial source, but are only open part-time . The Stanstead Historical Society has some records, from The Stanstead Journal , also a Marlene Simmons Website has data. If you go on Google and work it , there are sites , but not much in the way of actual records. If anyone has had difficulty accessing the Post 1901 Census Project website in the past day, please be patient and try again in a little while. Because of problems incurred lately, Rick Roberts has had to change companies where the servers housing the Post 1901 Census Project, the Global Gazette and Global Genealogy websites are located. All of the files have been transferred to a new company and new servers but it will take a little while for all ISPs to propagate the new addresses. Once this process is completed, the move should be transparent to users and any bookmarks you might have had to these websites should still be good. Some people may find problems accessing the Global websites for the next 24 hours although it is expected numbers experiencing this should be minimal. Once the changes have been completed access to the Global websites should be faster and more reliable. It is expected that all should be back to normal by Thursday evening. Happy Hunting Gordon A. 1. White, Kennedy,Bell in Danville/Richmond
    2. James Leroux
    3. I am interested in the family of Archibald White of Danville, Quebec. According to the 1861 census, he was 66 years old and a member of the Church of Scotland. By profession, he was a weaver but is described as a pensioner in the census. In the 1871 census, Archibald is 76 years of age and is said to have been born in Scotland. He died May 2, 1872 in Danville and was buried from the Congregational Church, Danville. Archibald's wife, Elizabeth Kennedy, according to the 1861 census was 31 years old and born in Ireland. She died February 28, 1869 aged 40 at death, and was buried from Ste. Anne's Church, Danville. The above couple had at least 6 children I know of. They are Elizabeth b. ca 1856/57, Catherine Alice 1859, Ellen 1860, Edward 1862, Josephine 1864, and Hannah 1869. All the children except Elizabeth and Hannah were baptized at Ste. Bibiane's in Richmond. Hannah was baptized November 1, 1869 in the Congregational Church in Danville and was adopted by Robert Bell and his wife Isabelle ____. I would like to know the parentage of Archibald White and Elizabeth Kennedy, their marriage details, the birth details of their daughter Elizabeth b. ca. 1856/57, and any information concerning their children Elizabeth, Edward, Josephine, and especially Hannah. Where did the children go and what became of Hannah and her adoptive parents? Any information would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you. From snowy Montreal.

    2. To Leslie and all that have responded regarding online records. A huge thank you!. I had been checking these fairly regularly and was not aware of all the new material thanks to all those hard working transcribers. Unfortunately, after checking every online cemetary this afternoon, I still can't find my surnames. There has to be a large field somewhere....LOL. According to my Census data of 1901, I have Bronson's born in Quebec with children born in Quebec. George Bronson b. 1857 wife Lizzie b. 1862 Children: Bershia? b. 1879, Emmot or Everett b. 1880, Earl 1883, Arnold b. 1886 (1887), John b. 1889, Eddie b. 1894, Goldie b. 1898 Arnold Baker Bronson b. 1886/1887 d. 1960 m. Janet (Jennet) Glendinning Williamson b. 1891 d. 1965 They were from Stanstead area, but even in the last few years the children, etc of Arnold and Janet have been buried in the Sherbrooke/Lennoxville area as far as I can tell. I've checked with Dave at the Stanstead Journal and the local society, but no records seem to be there.

    1. Could it be Roll Call time for this list. Might be fun to list where live too.
    2. I was going through our list's archives this AM and see we used to have ROLL CALL's and wonder if that might be a good idea about now. The Worcester County, MA., list that I also belong to had a fabulously successful ROLL CALL a while back where everyone listed where they lived and what a marvelously diverse group we turned out to be. Just a suggestion. BRICK WALL: I will list my most frustrating and elusive ancestor. My 2 great grandmother. Seeking place of birth, parents and siblings. CLARINA HOWARD SMITH b. Found in 1851 Sherbrooke census, 1870 US census - Norton, VT., 1881 Canada Census, Coaticook, Quebec & 1901 Canada census for Sherbrooke, Quebec. I have tried to get her birth record from the Quebec Archives in Sherbrooke to no avail. They don't even answer my requests. Very frustrating! WHERE do I live? 2. Is there anyone that has or does look-ups for cemetaries in these areas. It seems that much could be found if these cemetaries were transcribed by someone that is English speaking. We seem to go in circles.....need the birth or death date to get any records for Quebec and yet most of what is needed is in cemetaries that don't seem to have been transcribed. Am I missing something? I am sure that four families from Stanstead/RockIsland/Beebe and S.W. Ontario have been transported to Sherbrooke/Lennoxville for burial even as late as a year ago. 1. Edwidge Danneau (daughter of Joseph Danneau and Philomene Beloin)
    2. Hi: I have the marriage of Edwidge Danneu to Hector Choquette on 15 Jan 1906 at Sacre-Coeur, Stanstead. Her parents are listed as Joseph Danneau and Philomene Belon. On the 1901 census, there is an Edwidge listed with parents as Daniels, with Joseph and Phoebe V as parents. I have the marriage of Joseph Danneu as 12 Oct 1884 at Sacre-Coeur, Stanstead to Philomene Belon. Parents were Louis Emmanuel & Adele (Provencher) Danneau and Joseph Beloin and Marie (Raymond) Belon. Is there anyone who could check Sacre-Coeur records and see if there is a baptism for Edwidge under the name Daigenault, with perhaps spelling of Edwige or a variation of Danneau. I have a feeling this last name may be one of many variations. I did find a Louis Daigneau and Adeli listed on the 1881 census living in Stanstead Plain, who may be Joseph Danneau's parents. Any help would be appreciated in sorting out this family. Thank you, Dot
