    3. Just got his first born, my grandfather to find now. I am hoping a Will may help. The address in 1931 is in anice part of Kent, it implies John was well off, and would probably have a Will. ( of course may have chosen to forget his illiegitimate offspring by a relationship before he went to canada) By the way Percy had no birth certificate. The file states it wasn't needed in Quebec in 1900 when he was born. did marriages have to be legally registered circa 1899 Sue Pam Wood Waugh <waughp@yahoo.com> wrote: Sue, So glad you found him! I went through something similar in searching for the death of my great great grandmother in England after 1881. Many years later found that she died in Lowell, MA in 1904 (about 30 miles from where I grew up). My grandmother had even helped me with family history before she died in 1969 -- and never once mentioned that she was aware my grandfather's grandmother died in the states. She had come over with another one of her children a bit later. I had been looking for the siblings over in England, and by chance, found that another child had died here in Lowell. Locating the census, found her in 1900. I spent YEARS looking in Leeds and Hunslet, Yorkshire. End result -- doesn't matter. Found them. ;-) Congratulations! 3. You were most helpful Ernie. I had thought the address in Sherbrooke never existed until you contacted me. John's youngest son was Percy, born in Sherbrooke. He eventually lived in Shanghai and was caught up in the war. As a result of this the Canadian Archives had a file on him, a volunteer obtained the file for me, and it is full of personal information about the family, including dates and addresses. Percy had no birth certificate. The file had a legal declaration about his birth made by his father in 1931 in Kent. I now have so much more to research, but this was one almighty leap Sue Ernie Turner <eb_turner@hotmail.com> wrote: Hi Sue, Congratulations. That is really neat. Thanks for letting us know. 3. Civil Registration only became official in 1926. You may be able to find the marriage in church records, though -- From census records do you know what denomination they were? Perhaps Percy was baptised in 1900/01? There are so many church records covering the Sherbrooke area, you may just find what you are looking for. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] Many More Pages to do in Quebec
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all readers and transcribers:- I received an email from Fort Erie, asking "when will the Quebec census be finished" -- I am afraid I told him when the transcribers finished all the remaining many pages. Check http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ You will find there are many districts showing 100% - with the needed 50 lines per page. Quebec is presently at 70.65% with only Ontario, Manitoba, SAskatchewan, British Columbia and Alberta competing -- other provinces are 100% Check the following page -- Sutton, Brome, Quebec http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test2.jsp?sdid=6480 It is hoped Cindy Parker returns to finish Page 7 - only 6 lines Also Marilyn Davis has only 7 lines on Page 10 As for the last line it is claimed, but transcriber did not add BLANK lines to the 29 lines to make 50 Family researchers may transcribe his or her family -- but please DO NOT CLAIM the page, unless you do the 50 lines. [Tip:- Copy and Paste are great to transfer both typed data and other part of image to a new message - I have done it!] If pages are enumerated in French, they should be transcribed in French with accents -- I have these on a page I will forward. Also, I have other instructions for transcribing -- several pages, and have copied in one of my Canada Census Committee who will translate if necessary. Let's try and finish Quebec before one of the western provinces. Percentages per District/Province http://static.automatedgenealogy.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6474 Muriel M. Supposedly from a hand-written family history, John Higgins came to Canada at a young age, indirectly from Ireland, with an uncle William Higgins, who was a member of the "horse guards". (Calvary maybe???) Would like to know what regiments that may have been in the area before 1833 (year John married in Dunham) that Wm Higgins may have assigned to. Thank you for any assistance. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] Transcribing Coming Along Very Well -- More Help Could Be Useful!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Transcribing of the 1911 Canada Census, released June 28, 2005 is coming along very well -- even though it seems as if some of the enumerators wrote with a piece of 2 x 4 lumber -- often too much ink and very often not enough. Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, NorthWest Territories and Yukon Territory (including Labrador) are 100%. Ontario was 91.46% earlier, followed by Manitoba at 77.14%, Quebec is 67.99%, Saskatchewan 47.28%; British Columbia 46.73% and Alberta 35.88% with overall percentage of Canada 76.66% Reading above, one can see where assistance is needed if only for one page or two -- these do not have to be claimed as long as we get that magic 50 (or more) beside the page. Good news -- Newfoundland became a province in 1949, and one of our committee members tells me there will be a 1911 census -- one only has to look in the next column after the age for the well-known NFLD. We wish you luck Don. If assistance is desired, there is a great deal of information at http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ == Frequently Asked Questions is "unfinished" -- there are always more to ask. I am working in a team of transcribers -- it is great to have company! I have a page of French accents which will greatly assist a transcriber Muriel M.
