Presently we spell it PILE all except one renegade! uncle who used the Y. However in my research, I have found it spelled both ways, even in the same family so I guess it is just a matter of choice. Anyway, our (my husband's) first ancestor that we know of came to New York about 1699. Hia name was Richard Pyle. His son William PyleI died fairly young but he had two sons. One of which (also Wm. Pyle II) came to Maryland. His son (Wm. Pile III) was in Rev. War and received a grant. He came to Breckinridge County Ky. and this is where we are. A majority of his children and descendants stayed here but a few of them went elsewhere. To Indiana, Illinois and to California. One in particular went to Sacramento in 1846. Does any of your ancestors fit into this pattern. Hope to hear from you. Shirley Pile HCR 84 Box 40 Constantine, Ky. 40140 Constantine, Ky. 40140
