Cynthia; According to the Howard Pyle "bluebook", some feminists refer it to the Jane (Weaver) Pyle "bluebook." They did a fantastic job putting it together and I happen to be lucky enough to find a copy at the state library when I first started this crazy hobby. I ordered a copy and have been able to chase down quite a few of the relatives and make a few assumtions concerning others. However, the Pyle/Pile families were never ones to sit still and so they present quite a challenge when it comes to tracing them. My Harvey and Mack lines were precise in their recordkeeping and I have the Harveys back to 1400 and my ex wife's Bristol line back to the same period. The Harveys claim their roots back to 940 AD in Scotland with the landing of Sturgis the Stout landing in his viking ship. Anyway, getting back to the "Bluebook!" The references you should be looking for concerning the Richard Piles family are spelled out and they are: Claude Conway Pile, MT. Hope, Kansas, 67108 "New England Families" edit. by William R. Cutter, 1913, vol 11, page 849 "Register of Marylannd Heraldic Families" by Alice Parran, page 302 Washington Co., KY. Deed and Will books History of Shelby, Co. IN., Richard Pile came to Ind. in 1823. Wills, Deeds, Marriages of Washington Co. KY. St Rose Church, Springfield, Washington Co., KY. Marriages. Information On Richard C. Pile family as given by Claude Conway Pile, as told to him by Rufus Moody Pile. Nelson Co. KY. Vol ll Mar. bonds 1785-1832 KY. geneal. 7 biography' Vol. 5, page 267 Pioneer History of Wash. Co. KY. "History" by O.W. Baylor on the Pile family, page 207 Those are the references. My belief is that Francis Piles and Richard Piles came to Maryland from the same area in England as Robert, Nicholas and Ralph Pyle/Pile, but it seems they arrived a bit earlier. John Piles, Gentleman also settled in Maryland. Francis Piles name was carried on the land records in Maryland from 1671. Dr. Richard Piles moved to Maryland around the year 1699, then returned to England and married Mary Belt Fowler. I feel that Dr. Richard and Francis Piles are connected. I also feel that Francis Piles and our Zachariah and William are related. However the hour is late and if this is new information to you I will be happy to continue in the morn. Ron Pyle
