    3. Ohio - JEREMIAH PILES, Preble Co. in the State of Ohio, who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Childs of the Regt. commanded by Col. Lynch in the VA Militia for 8 months. Inscribed on the Roll of Ohio for $26.66 per annum, commencing on the 4th day of March 1831. Certificate of pension issued the 13 day of May 1833 and sent to Eaton, Ohio. Arrears to the 4th of Mar 1833: $53.32; psemi-annual allowance ending Sept. 1833: $13.33, for a total of $66.65. The State of Ohio, Preble County Court of Common Pleas, September Term, 1832 On this 21 day of September in the year of our Lord 1832, personally appeared before the Honorable the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the county of Preble in the state of Ohio, Jeremiah Piles, aged 70 years, a resident of the county aforesaid, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congrefs pafsed June 7, 1832. That in October, 1780 he ws drafted in Bedford County, Virginia, (NOTICE - BEDFORD CO. VA!!!) to serve 6 months in Captain Child's militia company of Colonel ____(Winn's or LINNS) regiment and General Muhlenberg's brigade, he was marched first to Petersburgh, thence to Cabin Point, thence to Jericho where he afsisted to take a picket guard of 18 British soldiers in which contest deponent was wounded, Colonel Linns (?) commander, at the end of 6 months deponent received a written discharge at Cabin Point signed by Captain Chiles which is hereto attached - after he ws discharged, he served during the year 1781 about 2 months at the town of Bedford, which was the last of his services, making in all 8 months. Deponent knows of no livng witnefses by whom he can prove his services, but he is well know to Alexander Mitchel, Jacob Stamm and John Weikle, residents of the County of Preble, by whom he can prove that he sustains a good character for truth and veracity and that he is reputed and believed to have been a soldier of the revolution - he had a written record of his age from which it appears that he ws born in (COULD BE LOUDON OR FAQUIER) County, Virginia, in March, 1762. He has lived in Preble Co., OH, 14 years. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state. Hawkins, Clerk We, Alexander Mitchell, Jacob Stamm and John Weikle, residents of the county of Preble in the State of Ohio, do hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Jeremiah Piles who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration and that we believe him to be 70 years of age, the he sustains a good character for truth and veracity that he is reputed and believed in his neighborhood to have been a soldier of the revolution and that we have full confidence in the truth of his declaration. (Then the court makes a statement saying they believe him.) (Apparently, his first request was denied - and this follows) The State of Ohio, Preble County Court of Common Pleas, March Term, 1833: The supplemental declaration of Jeremiah Piles on this 23 day of March in 1833, personally appeared before the Honorable Judges of the Court, Jeremiah Piles, aged 71 years, he being the identical person who made and sbuscribed before this court on the 21 Sep 1832, the declaration to which this annexed, and who is a resident of Preble County, who being first duly sworn according to the law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congrefs pafsed June 7, 1832 in addition to the declaration already heretofore made. That sometme in the year 1781, to the best of deponants recollection, but he cannot remember exactly the time, he entered the service of his country in the War of the Revolution, at Bedford Co., VA, as a volunteer malitiaman under Captain Adams to guard the town of Bedford against the threat of invasion of the British, and remained in ______ at that place 2 months and upwards, until theylearned that the British had pafsed by. Deponant remembers that Colonel Lynch who ws then Colonel of the County was at Camp frequently, but whether he had any command he cannot state. Deponant says that he served in all as a militiamn in the War of the Revolution, upwards of 8 months. That at the close of this term he received no written discharge and that he knows of no living witnefs by whom he can prove said services.
