Ralph, I ran across this information while reviewing FGS tonight: On the FGS of Enoch I have, "Burial: The reference for the death and burial of Enoch Pyles is from a letter dated March 2, 1989 from Jane F. Murphy, professional genealogist [in Columbus, IN]. She states, "In 1979 I published Obituaries and misc. items from our newspapers. Page 102, it lists the death of an Enoch Pyles in 1881 and that he was buried in the cemetary near Lowell station. This would be the Carter's Chapel cemetary. In it, I frind a James Pyles, born 1824 died 1902. Enoch's burial, in 1881, is not recorded. The wife of James is there as well as other family members." In my FGS for james Wiley PYLES I have the following: "LDS film #1301620, cemetery records of Bartholomew Co., IN indicates: James Pyles 1824-1902 - burried at Carter's Chapel Cemetery with a lot of other PYLES. those shown are Elmer Pyles 1888-1924 Katie Pyles 1867-1893 Mary A. Pyles - no dates Nancy Pyles 1831-1913 Willis Pyles d. 1879 age 6 Ralph, this is the information I have under the FGS of James PYLES Jr. dob estimated based upon 1860 census is 1806 dob estimated based upon his 1863 Civil War discharge is 1819 dob estimated based upon his 1865 Civil War discharge is 1832 From Hester's pension application they were married in Orange Co NC about 1834 First child,Elizabeth, born in 1842 based upon 1860 census BUT 8 YEARS AFTER THEY MARRIED? 2nd child Julia and third child Alfred born in 1844 per 1860 census As you can see it does not appear that the person buried in Carter's Chapel who was born in 1824 is James Pyles Jr. Do you have my FGS #59 ? I have as his children the following: Francis M. b. 17 Jun 1846 m. Mary Brimfield 20 Jan 1870 Rebecca b. abt 1848 m. John F. Martin 11 Nov 1865 Joseph A. b. 14 Jun 1855 m. Mary L. Morris 25 Mar 1877 Mary E. b. abt 1854 Martha E. b. abt 1853 m. Henry Barnhart 8 May 1873 My record is fuzzy, but I have this James wife as Nancy (?). Also have other spouses for Francis M. Nancy E. Hays 10 apr 1898 and Rebecca - Isaac Kemp undated. What light can you shed on this situation? Who is the father of this James Pyles? Is it just a coincidence that Wiley's wife is Nancy Hopkins and the wife of this James is Nancy? Please let me know if you have any clearer picture of these people. Thanks! Marc
