Sara - My stepfather was Belton Pyle. He md my mother when I was just a tad and is the only father I've known. I've been helping a bit to research his ancestry. Basically it goes like this: William Rowan PYLE b 1821 Floyd Co. GA d 1899 Columbia Co. AR md (1) 1844 Floyd Co. GA Permelia Ann WARD b 1828 GA d 1875 Columbia Co. AR Francis Marion PYLE b 1865 Columbia Co. AR d 1933 Columbia Co. AR md 1905 Minnie Lee LAWRENCE b 1883 Union Co. AR d 1958 Columbia Co. AR Belton Brown PYLE b 1910 Columbia Co. AR d 1994 Sebastian Co. AR md (1) Irene Ada SMYTHE b 1905 Morris Co. KS d 1977 Sebastian Co. AR I've not yet discovered any proof for the parents of William Rowan PYLE, although various researchers have surmised different people for his father, apparently based on just dates and ages that seem to "fit." Likewise for his spouse Permelia Ann WARD. I have managed to obtain copies of these books: 1. The Pyle-Pile Family in America, 1642-1980, Howard T. Pyle, 1981 2. A Mendenhall-Newlin Alliance, Russell N. Abel, 1989 3. Colonel John Pyle and His People, C. Homer Pyle, 1970 From these, it is clear that it is possible that William Rowan Pyle was maybe a descendent of Coln. John Pyle, and thus earlier Pyles of PA. However, at this point that is pure speculation, lacking any proof whatever that I am aware of. We engaged the services of Dorothy Holland Herring, a GA genealogist, many years ago, and she collected considerable material but was unable to discover William Rowan PYLE's parents. So that's about where we stand - still looking for information - and maybe the PYLE-L list will help with that. Maybe I can help others, particularly if they have connections to William Rowan PYLE.
