Doni; My documentation ends or starts with William Piles/Pyle born in Pa. around the year 1775-76 and the branches are very clear from there on down. I suspect we descended from the Maryland Piles, but family history tells us that our William moved as a child with his parents to VA. and married Mary Jones or Janes in the late 1780's or 90's. Their second born son was my gg-grandfather Robert Pyle, born 2-18-1800. He married Martha Malone born 8-14-1802. They were married in Chilicothe, OH, 11-14-1822. I have no history on Martha except that Robert and Martha settled in Eugene, Vermillion County Indiana around the year 1824 and inherited property owned by William or Billy Malone, creating a supposition that Martha was Billy's Daughter. Robert and Martha Pyle died in the year 1867 in Williamson Co., TX. Robert and Martha's first born son William was born the 9th of March in Ross County OH. and came to Vermillion County with his parents and married Mary Mack on Christmas Eve 1846. William's brother Samuel, also born in Ross County on 4-11-1826 was the grandfather of Ernie Pyle, war correspondent. William and Samuel came to Ca. inn the early 1850's, but Samuel returned and purchased property in Helts Township, Vermillion County. Being the Pyles were movers and shakers, I just can't put my finger on where they began, I'm sure they descended from John in England, but from which branch is unclear at the present. I'm checking into the Zachariah Piles history in Va. right now and my guesswork lies heavy in that direction. My g-grandmother Mary Mack Pyle stated that Robert Pyle was born in PA., so who knows?
