UP--Ernie Pyle's "Aunt Mary" Bales, often a subject of nostalgic mention i The noted was correspondent's writings, died last night at the age of 93 in a nursing home at Dana, Ind. Pyle, a Scripps-Howard reporter, was killed in by a sniper on Ie Shima late in World War II. He spent much of his boyhood with Mrs. Bales. Mrs. Bales' nearest surviving relative, her stepson William Bales, died last Saturday. She had two step-grandsons, Col. Robert Bales and Jack Bales, living in San Fran- cisco. Marjory Payne
