Again, I have found not one shred of evidence that Coonrod and Ernie are related. In fact, virtually all the notes posted on PYLE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:PYLE-L@rootsweb.com> are about lines unrelated to Coonrod or myself. These separate lines are corroborated by: -My own DNA results do not match with the DNA results of six people who say they are descended from the Bishops Canning, Wiltshire, England Pyles (John, Nicholas, Robert...). I can clearly trace my line back to Conrad/Coonrod. -Quoting excepts from "The Pyle-Pile Family in America" by Howard Pyle: "I have seen no proof that Conrad is the son of Col. John Pyle. In his will Col. John does not mention a Conrad, but he didn't mention Samuel, Joseph or Mary either but other documents prove they are the children of Col. John Pyle. ...many people have worked on the Nicholas Pyle family of Pennsylvania to whom Col John is a grandson and they have never heard of Conrad Pile as being a part of this family. ...I will carry him (Conrad) here in the families where the immigrant is unknown." -I have a copy of a handwritten note about a meeting at Conrad "Poile's" house (Fentress CountryTN). A Narrative from an early family reunion describes that his name was "Poyle" which Conrad later simplified to Pile. --Stephen Pile ----- Original Message ----- From: Jack Pyle<mailto:sherlock@terragon.com> To: PYLE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:PYLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2004 2:29 AM Subject: RE: [PYLE] Pile/Pyle Family Research in England Hi Connie, We're talking the famous Ernie Pyle, the World War II correspondant, right? Does your husband have a photo of Ernie Pyle's grave marker where he's buried in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Punchbowl National Memorial? I was there two years ago and took photos just in case we were related. Because my hubby's gggrandfather, Henderson Pile/Pyle was born in Fentress County, TN in 1821, we believe he's somehow related to Coonrod Pile. Ernie Pyle, I believe is related to that family also. :) If your husband doesn't have a photo of the gravesite, I'd be glad to send you a copy. It's a beautiful National Cemetary! If you have anything to add to this, I would greatly appreciate it! My husband, on learning he really was related to Ernie, suddenly became quite interested in Genealogy. Go figure! Now he has collected every book he has written and a lot of memorabilia - except for his signature, which would probably cost close to $300. Looks like that is going to have to be a nice Christmas present for him. If I have not connected you to Ernie, please let me know and I will send you as much info as I can. I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but Don and Ernie are third cousins once removed, his mother, being the Pyle, is a third cousin to him. Anything else I can do for you, just let me know. Just wanted to add my two cents that I agree, I've worked the Nicholas Pyle line for years and have Howard's book, I have never seen a Conrad Pile/Pyle mentioned as a son of Col Pyle. I descend through his daughter, Sarah Pyle who married Thomas Lindley.
