    3. Dan: Good analysis!! For years I had assumed the 1860 census listing of Mrs. Julian Pyle meant there was a Mr. Julian Pyle and that Peter was the father of Francis. Seems there was some other evidence of Mr. Julian, but I'll have to check my notes at home. Do you have any theories of the relationship of Nancy Pyle in that 1880 census with John M. and Rocksey? Was she the widowed wife of a brother of John M. or a younger brother of Francis ? 3. I never unraveled the relationship of that Adeline and Nancy who were shown as heads of household on the 1880 Floyd Co. census. Both Adeline and Nancy were living with the elder John and Margaret in Polk Co. in 1870. Not clear to me whether they were daughters or daughters-in-law, but I have them listed as daughters at this point. In that same 1870 household were listed young children: Henry Pyle 5 AL Virgil C. Pyle 4 AL If one looks at the 1880 census of Floyd Co for Adeline and Nancy: Adeline Pyle 28 Henry 15 son (Doode?) 7 daug Sallie 2 daug Nancy Pyle (38?) Cicero 13 son William 9 son Carrie 4 daug I remember wondering if maybe Virgil C. and Cicero were the same person, and the birthplace of AL on that 1870 census might be an important hint. One could reasonably ask who was the father of the additional children born between 1870 and 1880, as neither Adeline or Nancy are shown with spouses. Among various possibilities, at least one is that Adeline and Nancy adopted as sons and daughters all the children listed in 1880. By 1900, Virgil C. was married to Jane Holcomb and they & children were Polk Co. That census shows his birthplace as GA but both parents born in AL, which would probably rule out Nancy as his mother. That's as far as I went (stumbled?) with Virgil or Cicero. Dan At 10:29 AM 3/24/2004 -0600, you wrote: >Dan: > >Good analysis!! 3. Nancy is Virgil C.'s mother. There is some conflicting birthplaces given depending on which census you consult. In 1881 she married the Morgan Richardson who is listed as a boarder in the 1880 census. Do you have any idea of the relationship of Julia Ann Richardson Pyle and Morgan Richardson? Morgan and Nancy are buried in New Harmony Cem. in Cedartown, GA. They had a son, James, and I have found some of his descendants. Virgil Cicero's son listed "Virgil" as the father of Virgil Cicero on his death certificate. So he believed his father and grandfather had the same name. If that is true, Nancy first married Virgil Cicero Sr. who died in the 1860s before the 1870 census. That does not explain where the other children came from. I had always assumed Adeline and Nancy were John Jr's daughters in law, but could have been unmarried daughters as you say. I definitely have been unable to find a record of their marriages to any Pyle. Children from other dead Pyle parents is a possibility. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dan Page" <depage@ipa.net> To: <PYLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 1:24 PM Subject: Re: [PYLE] Francis M. 3. That period of the 1860's was really topsy-turvy for areas of Georgia (Civil War). Young men served with the south, switched allegiance to the north, etc. etc. Many were killed or captured. I found one relative who was captured and sent north with the requirement that he never go south of the Ohio River, and he never returned to his family in GA. I found a couple others who served with AL units. If you haven't already done so, I would search for a Civil War record for Virgil or Cicero. Might get lucky.
