    1. [PYLE] Sgt. Alvin York
    2. My husband and I have just returned from a trip to Tennessee where we visited the former home of the famed World War I soldier, Sgt. Alvin York. Alvin's son, Andrew Jackson York, is a Park Ranger and was on duty the day we were there. I had heard (and I believe this is documented) that Alvin's mother was a Pyle or Pyles but I didn't know that Alvin's wife's mother was also a Pyle. Alvin married Gracie Williams. Her mother's name was Alice Pyle Williams. According to Andy York, there are several Pyle/Pyles families in the town of Jamestown. Andy said the York family was originally from South Carolina. There is a York County in SC and he thinks it may have been named for some of his people, but does not know for sure. Frances
