I found this tip at the Ancestry.com newsletter and thought it to be a pretty good idea. I hope it helps someone out there. If I find an address of a possible family connection that is more than 10 years old, I write "occupant" on the envelope. Then in my letter, the P.S. says, "If you are the occupant (and not the addressee), would you please use this enclosed envelope to send me any information you might have on the whereabouts of the addressee." I have gotten about a 96 percent return rate using this method instead of relying on the post office's "No longer at this address." One person even got the new address for me from a neighbor.
