Folks: I was extremely excited to see the recent round of messages concerning Coonrod Poiles (Pyle). My G-Grandfather was Jonathan Jackson Poill. I have been trying to find his ancestry for 10 years now. I have a fairly good case for him being the child of Mary Ann Westbrook and Nicholas Pyle. Since my G-Grandfather couldn't read or write I always thought he may not have been able to spell Pyle correctly and since he was from the South would pronounce his name to officials such as census takers, etc. and one of them spelled it phonetically as "Poill" which became his offical name. But now I have this wonderful new information that some Pyles spelled their name's as Poile, Poiles, or Poyle. I have put together my evidence at my website http://www.thorntongale.org/Genealogy/J_J_Poill/J_J_Poill.htm. This is a work in progress and I have incorporated the great information from Carolyn Fulmer and Jim Smee. I would be very interested in any information anyone has to offer. Thornton Gale
