These are in fact 2 DIFFERENT branches of the family, both in the line of the nefarious Dr. Richard Pile(s). One descends from Richard Pile (b. 2-9-1726 in Prince George Co., MD, d. 1780, VA) who married his first cousin Elizabeth Sprigg. Their children: 1. Richard Pile (1760-1816) m2. Rebecca Clifton & settled Jeffersonville, Indiana. DAR 2. William Pile (1761- ), m. Rebecca Clifton's sister (Elizabeth?) My ancestor. 3. Thomas Pile 4. Elizabeth m. Evan Shelby (brother of 1st governor of Kentucky) 5. Benjamin Pile William, Thomas and Benjamin are all early settlers of Washington Co. (city= Springfield) and Adair Co. (city= Columbia) The other descends from his younger brother, William Pile (b. 4-3-1729, d. 1756) who married Margaret Wright. Their children: 1. Eleanor 2. Mary Wright Pile (?) - p. 224 in Blue Book 3. William Pile, Jr. (b. 1755 MD, d. 1814 in Breckenridge Co., KY). He is DAR and married two Keys girls--Lucretia (1784) and Nancy (1811). There seem to be many of his ancestors on this site compared with very few relates to above (my) William. It would be great to better understand the interrelationship of these families--especially if offspring wind up in California at the time of the Gold Rush. Susan P.
