He was a great American War Correspondent. His name was Ernest Taylor Pyle, but known to all of us as Ernie Pyle. He was born in Indiana on August 3, 1900. He became a famous newspaper correspondent and while serving in that capacity in World War II he was killed by a Japanese machine gun ambush on Iwo Jimo on April 18, 1945.
