    1. [PYLE] Carter S. PYLE - Reply

According to the 1880, 1900, and the 1920 census, Hib was born in Kansas and his father was born in Illinois. According to Hib's death certificate he was born in Missouri. I am inclined to believe the census records as they are consistent. Hib's date of birth is October 2, 1864. I don't know Carter's date of birth but I think Treece had written 1834. >> A question and a comment: Question: Who was Hib living with in 1880 (and where)? Comment: William and Hannah (STANDLEE) PYLE reportedly died in Dade Co MO in the 1870s. Have you looked for them in the 1860 and 1870 census indexes for MO? In 1860, you might find that Carter S. PYLE was still in the household (age 26), or perhaps he was a near neighbor. Perhaps he married shortly thereafter, had Hib there in 1864 (thus birth in Missouri), and then died right before the 1870 census (when Hib was six). This is all speculation, but seems like this is where you should be looking. Have you looked for Carter's widow in the 1870 MO census? Also, I don't imagine there were too many Carter Scogeris PYLEs around (then or now). I'd be trying to figure out how this would all fit together if Carter S. PYLE (Hib's father) and Carter S. PYLE (Ura's brother) were one person. Interesting possibility. Jim Smee Pittsburgh PA
