Peggy, I have saved your query and queries from other folks that have appeared on the list and will search what resources I have. I am hoping that some of the other listmembers will also help with lookups and will post responses to the list. Thanks Joy and welcome to our PYLE(S) list! As this time, we are at 21 subscribers and have only been on line since Saturday. We look forward to having some of the SQUIRES join us. Bobi, I checked WFT cds 1 through 7 and found nothing for Daniel Boone Pyles. On one of the marriage cds it showed Piles, Daniel m. Helm, Caroline 4 Oct 1838 Boone, KY all of the Frances Burgess' were in VA and married to other people. This particular cd did not cover Ark or MO. Also, the information on some of these cds is not always correct. I just wanted to let you know what I found. Maybe someone else has other resources since I have now checked Howard Pyle's big book in addition to these cds. (: Sara
This list should also be one of those subscribed to by some of the descendants of Nehemiah and Sarah (Polen) Squires, who resided present-day Preston County, WV, 1800-1855. Hi folks, You might want to check out this site for early military records of Virginia residents. Be sure to note the instructions at the top of each section of accessing the file name closest in spelling. I saw Pile(s) and Pyle(s) listed in various sections. http://image.vtls.com/collections/cc_military.html#confederate Sara
I am seeking information on William Pyles (1809-1879) who lived in Washington County, PA. he had three children with his first wife whose surname was Clokey. Her first name is unknown. He had a dozen more children with his second wife, Mary Louisa SHIPLEY (1824-1917). I suspect Pyles came from MD. The parents of Mary Louisa -- Samuel SHIPLEY and Amelia RIDGELY -- were both born in England and lived in Anne Arundel County, MD. I believe someone already has checked the "Pyles Family of America" for me. I have summaries of a half dozen Pyles including Zachariah and Elijah of Monongalia County, VA, I can provide. Bobi, The Howard PYLE book says that Daniel Boone Pyles married on 22 October, 1868 to Frances Burgess. This would put his birthdate @1848, I would think. I will check some of my WFT cds and get back to you. Sara

Well looks like old Enoch Harrison Pyles (1876-1956) has a father and a mother. Daniel Boone Pyles and Francis Burgess. Seems Daniel Boone Pyles was born in KY on 10-22-1868. Miss Francis....well she is still relatively unknown, except for the fact that she was left to raise the kids all alone. When the oldest son was 12 years old , who this child was, we don't know so far. Papa went up into the hills and never came back. DB had brought his family into the Ozarks shortly after the civil war. Now the way I figure...Mr. Daniel Boone Pyles had to have a mother and a father....perhaps siblings, maybe not? But he had to have come from somewhere, because he left his family in the Ozarks where they remained or at least his family line seems to have remained, in the area of AR and MO. Looking at the pictures of Sank and Fanny (Enoch and Mary Carlotta Cole) they remained quite poor all their lives, and their oldest daughter Zefria T. (Pyles) Bingham married into another poor family. Zefria was my grandmother. Kind of the situation you see in the old movie "Grapes of wrath" with Henry Fonda. The depression and those living in the Ozark mountains. Grandmother and her children lived off the land, wild berries and fruits, fished from the river they lived on, in a one room log cabin, and someone would go hunting to try to bag some meat. This is something I have never had to endure Praise God! Can anybody help me here? Going down to see some of his great grandchildren in the beginning of August and I would really like to take some information with me ...thanks everyone! bob bobette@mail.prostar.com
Dear Folks, Please post all genealogical messages to the list in addition to responding to someone privately. You never know when someone else in the group might see something that will help in their own genealogical research. Utilizing the "Subject" line to make clear the topic of each post will help each listmember decide if they want to read that particular note or not. Thanks. Sara

Hello Sara and group, I'm very happy you started this list. I'm sure it will grow as more people find out about it. There seems to be a lot of Pyle descendents out there and there is plenty of info to share. I also have the Pyle book. It was a tremendous help to me since I descend from Robert Pyle and Ann Stovey through their son, William Pyle. Last summer I visited Pyle's Mills which is located in Lawrence Co, PA. The mill was built by my ancestor Amos Pyle and his wife Rachel Wright around 1800. The grinding wheels from the original grist mill are still there and the property has a small cemetery where Amos, Rachel and some of their children are buried. At the moment I live near Columbus, OH and we are in the process of moving to Peters Twp. Washington Co., PA. We will be closing on the new house in early August and moving in around mid August. I will probably have to unsub and resub at some point to the group when I change providers but hopefully that won't be too painful. I look forward to sharing info. Dawn myers@netwalk.com

I am searching for Benjamin Pyle born in 1815 KY (Christian County?) married Nancy GISH and moved to Delaware County IA. They moved to Lawrence County MO in around 1870 and lived here until their deaths. Ben died in 1875 and Nancy died in 1905 and was buried in Grammar aka Fairview Cemetery near Marionville MO. I am currently searching for Benjamin's father, mother and siblings. I am also researching Benjamins' childrens lines. Anyone able to help on this problem I would appreciate. I will be glad to share what information I have so far. Thanks Peggy Pyle Mt Vernon MO 65712
Hi all, For some strange reason I have not been getting all of my mail today. I did not see my own welcoming message to the group. The first message that I saw on our new PYLE list was from Bobi regarding Enoch H. PYLES. If any of you posted messages earlier than the first note from Bobi, please re-post your message to the list address. I am sorry to inconvenience anyone with this request. If any of you did not receive my welcome message please let me know. Thanks Sara
Hello all; Pyle/Pyles is my husband's line. The name was originally spelled with the "s", but apparently my husband's grandfather, Z. Taylor Pyle dropped the "s" @1900. John Pyle(s), no dob, possibly died 1881, married to Anna WATKINS, b.20 Aug. 1851, d. 8 Jan. 1904. They lived in the Bridgeport, WVA area I believe. John and Anna had two sons: Zachery (sic) Taylor Pyle(s) was born 10 Oct. 1875 in Marion Co., WVA.; and Joshua, no dob, no info except he may have become a preacher and traveled between WVA, KY and Ohio. Zachery Taylor PYLES died 14 March,1957 in Clarksburg, Harrison Co.,WVA. I believe that John Pyle/Pyles may have been a descendant of Zachariah Pyles but have no proof. Any help on this line is greatly appreciated. Sara listowner
Hi Bob: In checking H. PYLES book, I found an Enoch Harrison Pyles that was the son of Daniel Boone PYLES and Frances BURGESS. They were married 22 October 1868, in KY. Children listed are: James Alford PYLES; William Henry PYLES, Enoch Harrison PYLES; Leonard PYLES and Mary PYLES (who was born blind). James Alford PYLES had a son named Elba PYLES who lived in Carthage, MO. A letter is cited from Mrs. Elba (Lida W.) Pyles saying that "Daniel Boone Pyles brought his family to the Ozarks during or shortly after the War Between the States. They came from either KY or ILL. When the oldest son was 12 years old his father left and never returned. All efforts to trace him failed." Think this might be your line? Hello to all subscribers to the PYLE list! My name is Sara Pyle and I am the "listowner". This list was started in order to provide a homebase where we can exchange information in our search for our ancestors. A lot of us have been in contact with each other over the past year or so in our search for family history. Some of us have known each other for many years. I would like for each of us to post the lines we are researching or at least our most wanted ancestor. Possibly some of you would like to share some tidbit of history pertaining to the PYLE(S) name. You might want to post any resources that you may own. As an example, I own Howard PYLES big book and also some WFT cds. Specifically, marriage cds 4 & 229; WFT 3-7. It might also be fun to share a little information about ourselves but this is not mandatory. For those that do not know me, I am a PYLE by marriage. My husband, Richard, and I reside in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Richard was born in Pennsylvania. His grandfather, Zachery Taylor PYLE, resided in both PA and West Virginia and that is where I have been doing some research. Will post my line later, but would like to hear from some of you. (;-) Sara
