(First marriage of Alice Bowater to Jacob Pyle 4/8/1713; second marriage of Alice Bowater-Pyle was to Moses Mendenhall on 6/18/1719.) I noticed the group name, and am always looking for ways to fill in the gaps. In hopes that I may share a link with someone, or if anyone can provide missing information, I'm posting my line from Pyle on back. My PILES/PYLES line came from North Carolina to Bartholomew Co. Indiana abt 1838. The mother of the group was name ELIZABETH SIMPSON at the time although I do not know when the marriage to SIMPSON took place. Most of the family marriages seem to take place in Guiliford Co.but I believe they lived in Orange Co. because of the names on the Census records. The six brothers were: 1.George Pyles b. ca 1805 married Sarah RHOADS 1832 Guilford Co. NC 2.Wiley Pyles b. 1804 died 1864 Decatur Ala. Civil War. 3.William Pyles b. 1807 married Mary M (Mallie) RHODES Guilford Co. NC 4.James Pyles b. 1809 married Hester PYLES (cousin) Orange Co. N.C. 5.Moses Pyles b. 1817 married Susannah RHOADS Guilford Co. NC 6.Enoch Pyles b. 1819/20 married 1sr Sarah Ann KNIGHT 2nd Emma FRENCH both in Bartholomew Co. Indiana. The Piles/Pyles brothers started purchasing land in Bartholomew Co. in 1839. Two of the brothers list children as being born in Kentucky on the 1850 Census. The name was spelled PILES on all documents until about 1865 when it is changed to PYLES. There is a family named PYLE living in Edinburg Indiana, just a few miles north of Columbus. I do not believe they are related, however they did marry into the same family surnames. My uncle Floyd BREEDEN [desc.]was descended from that family. Sara, This may a dumb question, but is there any way to purchase the Blue Book? Also, I had the same problem you are talking about as far as accessing the cd, which is still available by the way. The trick is to go online from your FTW program and MAKE SURE YOU ACCEPT THE COOKIES. Normally, I turn all cookies down, but it doesn't work if you do. If for some reason you are able to connect and still get funny messages, somewhere in there it should give you the option of verifying your license or status with FTW. You can correct it then. In my case I had already loaded my 4.0 and at one point I actually had to reinstall my 3.4 to get it to work. (I bought the 4.0 directly from them and had registered the 3.4 etc, who knows why - it had worked the day before!) Now it seems to work even with the 4.0 reloaded. Go figure. I belong to the mail list for them and FOWIN, which I also keep current. We are not alone in these problems. I just sent them a flamer of a posting because of these and many other problems with the Big B. I told them Broderbund is a bad word. If for some reason you are not able to go online from FTW, you need to check the .ini file to see how it is pointing to the browser. I have much more detail on that if you need it or want it. Just read the postings from Ken and Cyndi re: 315 lookups. I think that is great and really appreciate the information. I am sure that some of us will want to make requests. I tried to take advantage of that 315 offer but somehow I couldn't get it, even though I had puchased my FTM from the FTM site and paid through the nose for it. Unfortunately, my dealings with FTM have been less than satisfactory. I sincerely doubt that I will ever send them my files in order to get whatever freebie they offer so that they may turn around and sell information to folks that I would freely share it with. Because so many of our members have joined in the past week or so, I would like to re-post my offer to do lookups in the limited resources that I own: WFT cds 1-7, Marriage cds 4 and 229, H. PYLES bluebook and other assorted records. Sara
I also took advantage of this offer. I have the Pile/Piles/Pyle listings for all states downloaded if anyone would like a lookup. I would highly recommend checking all spellings of the name, even if you "know" they went by a certain spelling. ("My" Benjamin was listed as Piles in this census index.) Dear List Members: My Pyles line is as follows: Michael Pyles b. 1814 in Marshall, WV m. Martha Burley Bernard Alexander Charles Pyles b. 1838 in Moundsville, WV m. Mary Ann Reed George Wilson Pyles b. 1863 in Moundsville, WV m. Alcester Higgins Aline Pyles b. 1912 in Denison, TX m. Emmett Spears Frances Spears b. 1932 in Denison, TX m. Bill Bruce
For anyone who may have the desire to search microfilm records of the 1830 census for "select" counties of Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee, I recently took advantage of a free trial of the Broderbund World Family Tree Maker Family Archive CD315. This CD has over two million census records that were gathered from various U.S. counties in 1830. It is by no ways a complete record of the census, but it may be helpful to some of you. The CD lists the name of the head of the household, followed by the city or township, county, and state. It then shows the page number of the census record taken for that particular city or township. You can use this information to greatly speed up the time spent scrolling through microfilm by not having to read last names until you reach the page that is listed. I only did a search on the above states, since that is where our Pyle ancestors were known to possibly be around1830. FYI, my wife, Bonnie K. Pyle, is the great grand-daughter of Thomas W. Pyle (1848-1907) who lived in Lawrence, County, MO and the great great grand-daughter of Benjamin Pyle (1815-1875) who we believe was born in Christian County, KY. Peggy Sue Pyle is also working on this same line and we have been sharing (mostly her sharing with me) information. Anyway, here are the names that I recorded, followed by location, and census page number. To save typing, I only show first names. The last name will be Pyle in all cases. If two or more page numbers are shown, it indicates more than one person with the same first name in that county. ILLINOIS: Abner Perry county 121 John Perry county 121 & 123 Samuel St. Clair county 124 William Perry county 125 KENTUCKY: Abner Christian county 016 Nicholas Calloway county 194 Nicholas Hopkinsville, Christian county 021, 023, 004 Sarah Hopkinsville, Christian county 005 Thomas Christian county 017 William Calloway county 190 William Christian county 022 William, Jr Christian county 018 MISSOURI: William Wayne county 047 TENNESSEE: John Sumner county 37 John Tipton county 87 Joshua Sumner county 38 William Bledsoe county 70 William Sumner county 38 Please note that the counties shown are by today's boundaries. It is very possible that some of the county names may have changed since 1830. Good Luck with this little item. Let me know if this helps any of you out in your research. It will be a while before I get to put it to the test. Our local LDS Genealogy Library does not have a very large selection of census record microfilm. Someday, I hope to spend a few days at the West Coast branch of the National Archives Library. Good Luck Ken Soper, Apple Valley, CA

Linda. ================= Hi Linda, Thanks a million for the gedcom file. I had started my research (such as it is) years before I ever thought of having a computer, so all of my information is hand-written. I went out this evening and bought Family Tree Maker and was able to import your gedcom file, so you can see that you have saved me days and days and days of typing! I am not a real genealogist, I just have an interest in it and am particularly interested in my family line. Therefore I throw this question out to you and to the list. Do you want information which I have but which is not properly documented? If so, I can add a great deal to your gedcom file! I can certainly add a lot of more recent information and fix some mistakes which I see on quick examination. Example: My father's name is spelled Wilfrid, not Wilfred. And, although I have no idea what her birth certificate says, I have never in my entire life heard anyone refer to my grandmother (shown as Annie Poole) as anything but Anne, not Annie. I know she referred to herself as Anne, not that it proves anything. Anyhow, I know I have recent information and believe I have information on early generations which you don't have. So I repeat my question -- do you want undocumented information? -- Anne Pyle mailto:ceannmor@erols.com http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/1060/index.html
> > Anyhow, I know I have recent information and believe I have information > on early generations which you don't have. So I repeat my question -- > do you want undocumented information? Anne, From the standpoint of providing names, dates and locations, these may provide leads or clues for further research to someone. As you know, anything that is undocumented is simply unproven and must be, in order to be accepted as fact. In cases where there are no records available for a particular individual but there is documentation for a known sibling, the record may be established by first getting documentation on the sibling, then linking them. Documentation may be as simple as an entry in the old family Bible. Your statement about your father's name is a type of documentation. All I am saying is, that we may share whatever information we want with other people but the facts must be proven. (;-> Sara

Annie, Regarding undocumented information. INHO, I feel that all information is welcome. I have been doing genealogy for 10 years now and a computer fro only about 3 years. I welcome and information (here say or otherwise), however I usually indicate the soruce of info (ex. word of mouth, bible record, ect, ect.) I use many different programs, Brothers Keeper, Famil Tree Journal, and I have an old version of Family Tree Maker 2.0. I realize not everyone has genealogy programs, and that there are many word processing programs. So I make my information in gedcom format as well as ASII format and many others. ANd like you I have all of my records on paper.... .....and not also on computer. Please, do send meyour information...as I try to always verify inforamtion given with the proper documents, whenever possible. Thanks, LInda. LGunzl@aol.com
