I posted my first and only message to this group about a week ago; since there are many new members, I'll post it again. ____________________________________________________ My work on the VAN DER LOOP family tree has led to a PYLE family. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is related to or acquainted with Marie PYLE, Donald PYLE, or their children, described below. ________________________________________________ Marie Joan (or Jo Ann) VAN DER LOOP, born Oct. 22, 1943, probably in Wisconsin. Her parents were Martin Joseph VAN DER LOOP and Eustacia (Stacia) RILEY (born Eustacia Jacks or Jacques or Jax; changed to RILEY during immigration). Marie has a sister named Bille Jean VAN DER LOOP, married to _____ BYERS. She also has a half-sister named Lou Ann (Van Der Loop) HANSON. Marie married (1) ___Unknown____? Children: Craig (or Corky) Kelly Christy Marie married (2) Donald PYLE Children: 1 son, name unknown Unknown if there are other children Marie is a 1st cousin of my husband. Her father and my husband's mother were brother and sister (both deceased). Our interest is only to fill in the blanks in the family tree. We hope to hear from someone who recognizes her from this sketchy information. Nancy Christie Portland, Oregon christie@admin.ogi.edu
Hi, The following is a letter I received from someone several months back and thought I would share it with the list. Becky Pyle ********************************************************************* On the tombstone of Ruben and Rachel (Boyce)Pyle, in the Allen graveyard, 10 mi. north of McConnelsville Ohio, it reads that they came from Chester Co Pa. in the spring of 1819 to Muskingum C, Ohio. The 1790 census of Pa. shows a Pyle family and a Boyce family living in adjacent townships in Chester Co., Pa. Ebenezer Pyle in West Caln twp. with 4 boys and 2 Girls: Hezekiah Boyce with 5 girls. It is possible that these are the parents of Ruben and Rachel. Robert, Nicholas, and Ralph Pyle came from England in 1683 and settled at Bethel, just west of Chester Pa. This may be a link Ruben and Rachel bought a farm 3 mi SE of Gaysport Oh. Issac Newton Pyle was born there in 1823, an only son who inherited the farm. He married Matilda Dutro (b. 4/22/1824). Reference is made to children("their children were given little schooling, but kept at home to work on the family farm"), however only one son James Dutro Pyle (b. 2/27/1855) was listed in the history handed down to me. He married Alice Mathews, granddaughter of Dr. Increase Mathews. James is the father of my Great grandmother Olive Grace (Pyle) Bartlett. **************************************************************

Hi everyone! I'm Rita. With a lot of help from Sara, I'm trying to post my line of Pyle family. Let me know if it helps anyone make a connection. Another Pyle Line: Georgia to Arkansas William Rowan Pyle (1821-1899) m. Parmelia Ann Ward (1828-1875) in Floyd County, GA in 1844: Born in Georgia: Narciss Jane Pyle b. about 1846, married David Perritt b 1816, had five boys Andrew Jackson Pyle aka Jack 1847-1919, married Mary Ellen Madlen b abt 1849, one child, then married Susan Rebecca Kemper b abt 1850, had four children William W. Pyle b. 1849, married Emily A. Kolb Vinson b abt 1846, one child Mary Elizabeth Pyle b 1851, married William Louis Bailey (Louisiana), six children John Henry Pyle b. 1854-1921 (my g-g-grandpa) married Mary Sallie Kemper b 1855, five children William Rowan Pyle and family left Georgia and moved to Arkansas around 1854. We believed he was in trouble in Georgia and had to go. He was one of the early settlers of Columbia and Union Counties in Arkansas, near the Southwest corner of the state. We have been unable to establish the parents of William Rowan Pyle. He may have had a brother, Leonard R. Pyle, who came to Arkansas with him. Leonard may have returned to Georgia after fighting with William Rowan. William Rowan was a Confederate War veteran, a country doctor (aka Old Doc Pyle), a farmer, and a justice of the peace in Arkansas, marrying tons of people, including many of children and grandchildren. Born in Arkansas: Susan Virginia Pyle b. 1856, married Jim H. Gatlin b abt 1863, four children James R. "Jim" Pyle, b 1858, married Martha Greer, one child Alethia Ann Pyle, b. 1862 (raised by Parmelia Ann but daughter of William Rowan and Emily A. Kolb Vinson), Alethia married William H. Gatlin, two sons, then married Hiram Braswell, one son Thomas Lafayette Pyle, b 1862, married Amy V. Davis, ten children Francis Marion Pyle, b 1865, married Minnie Lee Lawrence, twelve children Robert Lee Pyle, 1868-1876 George Pyle, 1871-1882 William Rowan Pyle and 2nd wife Harriet Susan Ayers (1839-1878) One Child: Alfred T. Pyle 1877-1964, married Annie Pickering, two girls William Rowan Pyle and 3rd wife Mary Jane Evans Neyman (no dates yet) had no children, but I have a few of her children from the Neyman marriage. My information came from my grandfather, Ernest Pyle. He kept dubious notes over the years, and before he died he wrote two books. The first was about him, the second was about William Rowan Pyle and his descendants. Our family published the first one for his friends and family. He died in 1993 and asked me to finish the second one for him the day before he died. The second should be published this fall. He and I tried to find the parents of William Rowan, but Im an amateur and he never did find out. If anyone has info to help, please e-mail me at RiTA33699@aol.com. Thanks, cousins.

Dear Listmembers, As some of you know, I have been off my main computer for a couple of days due to a major computer crash. I was only able to receive mail at night when I had access to another computer for that purpose only. Believe me, I was totally lost without my files, FTM, mailboxes and bookmarks! Now I am trying to "forward" the mail back to my computer but it will probably be Friday before everything is back in order. There appeared to be some very interesting postings on the lists and I am anxious to study those. For those of you that have requested lookups, I will start working on them again. Hopefully all of my files are intact and my FTM still works. Sara pyle@airmail.net SPyle@aol.com
Welcome to our newest subscribers: Dawn Pyle, Jim Pyles and Bill Grubbs. When you have time, please post a short introduction of yourself and the Pyle(s) line you are researching. Your messages should be sent to PYLE-L@rootsweb.com All genealogical postings should be addressed to the list. This also includes responses to queries. For example, if you are responding to a query that I make, then you should address it to my e-mail with Cc to the list address or vice-versa. It is easiest to just click on "reply to all". If you have a personal message for someone then you would certainly want to send that privately. If you have any questions about the list or you are not sure of what to do, please e-mail me at pyle@airmail.net NEW INSTRUCTIONS FOR EVERYBODY: If you are posting a very long document or gedcom, then it should be done in 2 or 3 postings rather than the whole thing at once. For instance, you might be sending xxx pt. 1, xxx pt. 2, xxx pt 3, etc. The reason for this is very simply that some providers cannot handle large pieces of mail at one time. I also ask that we not send attachments to the list because there has been a problem with that on some servers. If you have a document that is too large to do a cut and paste, then post a description of it to the list to see who might want it sent directly. Or, I possibly could arrange to have it stored on a server for retrieval, just let me know. Thanks. Sara Broughton Pyle pyle@airmail.net
Dawn, I will get you subscribed. You should receive some "formal" instructions from Rootsweb. After you receive that you will know that you are on. You will then start receiving the messages from the list. You sent that post to the correct address for posting. Glad you decided to join us. How is the map business? Sara
Hi Dawn, This is Sara in Plano, Texas. We exchanged e-mails quite some time ago. The reason I am writing you is because Ron gave you the addy for a genealogical mailing list that has about 60 members. Your note was posted on the genealogy list today. Just thought you would like to know. You are welcome to join us in our genealogy research discussions. Let me know if you want to subscribe. Sara pyle@airmail.net

Bill; Can you come up with anything on Zachariah? I believe that Zachariah was a son of the Francis of Maryland and possibly a uncle or even a father of My William. There is a glaring mistake in the Bluebook, whereas Zachariah 6 from Zachariah 5 ends up with the seventh generation consisting of children of Zachariah 2 from William Pyle 1, my ggg-grandpa. These events take place on Pages 212 and 488. I'm confused enough without such dead ennds as these. I feel that our line descended from the Francis, Leonard and Richard Piles line out of Maryland anyway. I would just like to see the blood relationship concerning Robert Pyle, Nicholas Pyle, Ralph Pile, Francis Pile, Dr. Richard Pile and one of the first Piles to settle in Maryland who was John Pile, Gentleman that arrived with seventeen other gentlemen and 200 servants on the "Ark" and the "Dove." This took place in the midst of the 1600's and these Gent's so to speak went about building Manorial Estates. Having never visited the area, I hear that some parts of Maryland is only two miles from stateline to stateline. Considering this and the fact that Gentleman John came from Wilts in the early 1600's well before Robert, Nicholas and Ralph arrived from Wilts along about 1683, I'm sure that this present group may be able to gather our wits and figure who is related to who. I have so many notes put away right now that I'm so confused, I can't even determine who is my own sons and daughters. Somewhere, there's someone sitting on the link to put this all together. Correction to my earlier post. Http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/ http://www.mapquest.com Also, cemeteries that are located at churches wouldn't be found on these maps.
If you are looking for a place and can't find it in your atlas, try one of these URL's [sometimes you will have to try more than one]: http:/ www.mapquest.com http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html - you can find all sorts of features with this one. Good for locating cemeteries, etc. http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo If you cannot find a town with one of the above URL's, the chances are very strong that it no longer exists by the name you are using.
I am repeating this for newer members of the list: I am seeking information on William Pyles (1809-1879) who lived in Washington County, PA. He had three children with his first wife whose surname was Clokey. Her first name is unknown. He had a dozen more children with his second wife, Mary Louisa SHIPLEY (1824-1917). I suspect Pyles came from MD. The parents of Mary Louisa -- Samuel SHIPLEY and Amelia RIDGELY -- were both born in England and lived in Anne Arundel County, MD. I believe someone already has checked the "Pyles Family of America" for me. Harry Liggett, 544 N.
