Peggy and other Pyle cousins, I am finally starting to get back to doing lookups and will take them in date order. This post will be of interest to others I am sure. Peggy's note is at the bottom, dated 13 July. This information is more than what was asked but isn't what Peggy is looking for. In checking marriage cds, I found the following: Cd 4; no Benjamin Pyle, no Benjamin Pyles, no Benjamin Pile. I did find Benjamin PILES married Ann Simpson, 17 April, 1827, Prince Georges, MD. Cd 229: Benjamin Pyle married Melissa Compton, 5 Feb. 1833 in Christian Co.,KY. Benjamin Pile married Rhody Weathers, 2 March 1825, Washington Co.,KY. There were no Piles or Pyles on this cd. WFT 1 Benjamin, son of Nicholas, est b 1770-1824, no other info. No other spellings either. WFT 2: Found one that was later and not the right location, but will post for the group: Benjamin Pyles, b.9 Dec. 1863, d. est. 1864-1953, the son of Milton Pyles and Jane Runyon Caywood. Several siblings: George Thomas; Mary Eliza; Alice Cary; William Francis; Hattie Cook; Leonard; Elijah O'Bannon, Claude, Clifton Calhoun. I have dates on these if anyone is interested. There was another record containing a Benjamin that was much later than the one specified. Benjamin Pyles, b. August 1874, Wayne Co.,WV, d.31 July, 1935. There is quite a bit of info on this WV family. WFT 3: looked at all the spellings, found one Benjamin Pile, b.est 1743-1772, d. est 1797-1857, married to Ruth Van Meter, l child, Samuel. I did a print out on this family because there is quite a bit of info there, some in KY, IND, and MO. I will post this separately. WFT 4: Several Pyle listing including some from SC to Kaufman, TX. WFT 5: Another too early listing, Benjamin b. est 1737-1763, d. 1831, married to Sarah Heacock. WFT 6: No Benjamins for lookup. WFT 7: One Benjamin Pile, son of Richard, no real information. Very early. I am re-posting this because I am not sure y'all saw it the other day. This is from Marjory. My family is of John B. I would like to learn the names of these children. I believe John to be the son of Amos Pyle who was born about 1769/70 and died 6 Nov 1815. He was married to Rachel Wright who was born 1772 and died 21 Feb 1823 Their children were 1. Sophia Pyle m. John Kennedy 2. William Wright Pyle 3. John B. Pyle m. Elizabeth Thompson 4. Mary Pyle m. Robert White 5. Caleb Pylem. Johanna Holliday 6. Alice Pyle 7. Amos Pyle 8. Sarah Pyle m. James McConaughy 9. Joseph B. Pyle m. Rebecca Holliday The previous line of descent, has been given as: John Pyle and Mary Withers, England Nicholas Pyle and Edith Masprat Robert Pyle and Ann Stovey 2) Susan Turner (He [Robert] was the Immigrant 1682) William Pyle & Olive Bennett Job Pyle & Elizabeth Bennett Calleb Pyle & Sophia House Amos Pyle and Rachel Wright He [Amos]moved to Camp Run, Lawrence CO PA & his family is as above. The family were Friends of Chester CO. I do not know when they left the Society. Would be interested in learning more about the line. I have read some of the email regarding the Maryland Pile Family. Were they Quakers also and have you previously posted when they came to America and to which port.? I have done no work on proving this line. I was in touch with the Howard Pyles at the time they were asembling their book, but then I did not know John B. Pyles parents so could not connect. Thanks for any help regarding John Pyles family, I would really like to know the names of all of his children., and help in proving his line of descent. Marjory Payne
Thanks for the encouragement. But most of all thanks for this great website. I belong to about 15 other lists and 99.99% of my messages are from the PYLE list!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! (I'm going to steal Rita's line: This is just like one big family!) Happy digging!!! Doris

John and Cindy; Do you have the name of your Nancy Ann Pyle's brother, Nicholas' first wife and their children? I have notes that seem to indicate that he married ca 1771 and had four sons (of which two probably died young) before he married Ann Black. I hope I'm not boring everyone with my "one track mind", but I've worked constantly on this for two years and seem to be getting closer each day with the help of "Ya'll" (that's Texas talk!) THANKS EVERYONE!!! Doris
Rita, Peggy and all, Thanks for the tip on looking in Ky. I found these land records in KYGEBWEB for Christian Co. It seems Nicholas Pyle, Sr., Abner, Nicholas Jr, Samuel, Jno, Jno Jr., Thomas, William, William Jr., Nancy and (Nicholas Sr's) son-in-law, David Lacy (and some more Lacy's) all were granted land as early as 19 Mar 1799 and continuing until 19 Oct 1807, all on the Little River and East Fork of the Little River in Christian Co. (Nancy married Benjamin Crabtree in 1811). These may not all be sons of Nicholas, but several of them are same names appearing on this chart. If interested you may click on the KYGENWEB page to get Book and Page Numbers for obtaining records. Nicholas Pyle, Sr., (1748-1829) removed from Greenville Co., S.C. to Christian Co., Ky in 1793 then to St. Clair Co., Ill in 1818 and finally to Sangamon Co., Ill in 1825 where he died at his son Abner's house in 1829. Our local Library does not have 1790 KY census; LDS takes 3 weeks for film; and next nearest Library to me is 3 hrs away. Would one of my kind cousins who has access to that census on CD please look it up for me? I'm looking for Nicholas, Sr, and especially at the age of his oldest sons living with him. Thanks everyone!! I appreciate all this hard work.! Doris

To other Pyle cousins, although I dont link with anyone yet. I think putting the information into one gedco file sounds fantastic. I have 2 seperat data bases for PYLE, my line and then one for all information that I can gather from others. I have already taken the info from this list and added it to my Misc. PYLE file. If we can get something started along this line count me in, I'll help in any way I can. Linda LGunzl@aol.com
Want to tell y'all that if anyone doesn't want to go through the hassle of trying to retrieve files from the archives, that I have saved all of the postings. You wouldn't believe the condition of my "mailbox"!! Or, maybe you would. (;-> Y'all are also welcome to re-post anything that you want, I have been doing a few today for the benefit of newer members. Sara

Repost from 13 July. Hello to all subscribers to the PYLE list! My name is Sara Pyle and I am the "listowner". This list was started in order to provide a homebase where we can exchange information in our search for our ancestors. A lot of us have been in contact with each other over the past year or so in our search for family history. Some of us have known each other for many years. I would like for each of us to post the lines we are researching or at least our most wanted ancestor. Possibly some of you would like to share some tidbit of history pertaining to the PYLE(S) name. You might want to post any resources that you may own. As an example, I own Howard PYLES big book and also some WFT cds. Specifically, marriage cds 4 & 229; WFT 1-7, SSDIs, Ancestry Reference Library, and lots of paper files. Actually, my daughter, Rebecca, and I share ownership of some of these resources. (;-> It might be fun to share a little information about ourselves but this is not mandatory. For those that do not know me, I am a PYLE by marriage. My husband, Richard, and I reside in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Richard was born in Pennsylvania. His grandfather, Zachery Taylor PYLE, resided in both PA and West Virginia and that is where I have been doing some research. Will post my line later, but would like to hear from some of you. (;-) Sara
This is a repost from 15 July. Hi folks, You might want to check out this site for early military records of Virginia residents. Be sure to note the instructions at the top of each section of accessing the file name closest in spelling. I saw Pile(s) and Pyle(s) listed in various sections. These are not all Confederate records. http://image.vtls.com/collections/cc_military.html#confederate Sara

Welcome to the PYLE Family list! We are so glad to have you join us. When you have time, please tell us a little about yourself and what branch of the PYLE family you are researching. This is a very active list and I believe you will enjoy it. We do have a few guidelines regarding postings, etc. All genealogical postings should be addressed to PYLE-L@rootsweb.com This also includes responses to queries. For example, if you are responding to a query that I make, then you should address it to my e-mail with Cc to the list address or vice-versa. It is easiest to just click on "reply to all". If you have a message for someone of a personal nature, then you would certainly want to send that privately. If you are posting a very long document or gedcom, then it should be done in 2 or 3 postings rather than the whole thing at once. For instance, you might be sending xxx pt. 1, xxx pt. 2, xxx pt 3, etc. The reason for this is very simply that some providers cannot handle large pieces of mail at one time. Please do not send attachments to the list because there has been a problem with that on some servers. If you have a document that is too large to do a cut and paste, then post a description of it to the list to see who might want it sent directly. Or, I possibly could arrange to have it stored on a server for retrieval, just let me know. If you have any questions about the list or you are not sure of what to do, please e-mail me at pyle@airmail.net Looking forward to hearing from you.
