    1. Pyle- Wood Co., TX
    2. Rebecca Heckel
    3. Pyle Trivia- Evidently there were some prominent Pyles in Mineola, Wood Co., TX. I remember seeing a posting earlier about Bernard Pyle in Wood Co.,. If it was Wood Co., TX, then perhaps this was where he lived or some of his relatives. There is a Pyle House on their historic homes register, and it may be a Bed and Breakfast, I'm not sure. They are very proud of it, according to the Mineola Webpage. Check it out................

    1. MURPHY'S LAW OF FAMILY HISTORY
    2. Doris Pyle Haynes
    3. Murphy's Law of Family History * The keeper of the vital records you need will just have been insulted by another genealogist. * Your great-grandfather's obituary states that he died, leaving no issue of record. * The town clerk you wrote in to in desperation, and finally convinced to give you the information you need, can't write legibly, and doesn't have a copying machine. * The ancient photograph of four relatives, one of whom is your progenitor, carries the names of only the other three. * Copies of old newspapers have holes which occur only on maiden names. * No one in your family tree ever did anything noteworthy, always rented property, was never sued, and was never named in wills. * You learned that great aunt Matilda's executor just sold her life's collection of family genealogy materials to a flea market dealer "somewhere in New York City." * Yours is the ONLY last name not found among the three billion in the world famous Mormon archives in Salt Lake City. * Ink fades and paper deteriorates at a rate inversely proportional to the value of the data record. * The critical link in your famly tree is named "Smith."

    1. The Genealogist Psalm
    2. Doris Pyle Haynes
    3. I 'swiped' this from Tishomingo Co. MS Gen.Soc. Newsletter, they in turn 'lifted' it from the Internet. THE GENEALOGIST PSALM Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray. It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tombstones. It leadeth me into still courthouses; It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in the paths of census records and passenger lists for my surnames's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadow of research libraries and microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement. For a strong urge is within me; the curiosity and motivation they comfort me. It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents. It annointeth my head with burning midnight oil; my family group sheets runneth over. Surely birth, marriage, and death dates shall follow me all the days of my life. And I shall dwell in the house of a family-history seeker forever. next: Murphy's Law

    1. Bernard and Mary Ann
    2. Dear List Members, I found the following narrative to be interesting, hope you will, too. BERNARD AND MARY ANN The favored story in the family is that Mary Ann Reed was a nurse in the hospital in Wood County where Bernard Pyles was confined from June to August, 1862, during the Civil War, and that she met and cared for him there. The story may be true, or partly true, for they married in Parkersburg the following October. The proximity between the two families in Marshall County could easily lead one to suspect that they either knew or knew of one another before the wartime hospital experience. They returned to the family haunts in Marshall County to farm near Bellton and began to raise their family. When Bernard's father, Michael, died in April of 1880, Bernard was given $300, but no land, which was to pass through mother Martha to brothers James Lindsey and Hubbard Clark. Martha died in July of 1888 and it is presumed that the two brothers then inherited the farm. Bernard and Mary Ann had their tenth and last child, Grover Cleveland, in 1884 in Marshall County. At about that same time, their second child, Emma Jane, married Leonard Bonham and had two children, Charles and Lizzie May. At some time not long thereafter, the Bernard Pyles and Leonard Bonham families acquired a special car on a train and moved both families and their belongings westward. The group took one whole car for the trip to Kansas in 1886 and, after arriving there, went different ways. The Bonhams settled in Cleburne, Johnson County,Texas and Bernard's family were in Waverly, Kansas for a few years. Mary Ann must have been small in stature. In a picture taken with Bernard (in his Union officer's uniform), she appears to be half a head shorter than he, who stood only 5' 7" himself. By June of 1900 the families of both George Wilson (the eldest son) and Bernard were settled near the Red River in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Their farms were near, and probably west of Colbert, a town named for the Chickasaw Colberts. Colbert was located on the old Texas Road just to the north of Colbert's Ferry, and was a fairly new crossing point from Texas for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy) Railroad as well. Both George Wilson and his brother Calvin Luther were census takers in 1900. Mary Ann died in February 1906 and was buried in Colbert. Bernard died near Colbert of pneumonia and is buried beside his beloved Mary Ann. Note: This was passed on to me by a friend.

    1. Re: PYLE mailing list
    2. Hi Craig! Welcome to the PYLE Family list! We are so glad to have you join us. When you have time, please tell us a little about yourself and what branch of the PYLE family you are researching. This is a very active list and I believe you will enjoy it. We do have a few guidelines regarding postings, etc. All genealogical postings should be addressed to PYLE-L@rootsweb.com This also includes responses to queries. For example, if you are responding to a query that I make, then you should address it to my e-mail with Cc to the list address or vice-versa. It is easiest to just click on "reply to all". If you have a message for someone of a personal nature, then you would certainly want to send that privately. If you are posting a very long document or gedcom, then it should be done in 2 or 3 postings rather than the whole thing at once. For instance, you might be sending xxx pt. 1, xxx pt. 2, xxx pt 3, etc. The reason for this is very simply that some providers cannot handle large pieces of mail at one time. Please do not send attachments to the list because there has been a problem with that on some servers. If you have a document that is too large to do a cut and paste, then post a description of it to the list to see who might want it sent directly. Or, I possibly could arrange to have it stored on a server for retrieval, just let me know. If you have any questions about the list or you are not sure of what to do, please e-mail me at pyle@airmail.net Looking forward to hearing from you. Sara pyle@airmail.net

    1. A Genealogist's Prayer
    2. Thought y'all would enjoy this. Sara A Prayer For Genealogists Lord help me dig into the past And sift the sands of time That I might find the roots that made This family tree of mine Lord, help me trace the ancient roads On which my fathers trod, And led them through so many lands To find our present sod. Lord, help me find an ancient book or dusty manuscript, That's safely hidden now away in some forgotten crypt. Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts my soul when I can't find, The missing link between some name that ends the same as mine Whoever said, "Seek and Ye Shall Find", was NOT a genealogist!!!

Sara I want you guys to know that I have found some more of "Grandpa'sj notes" that may help tie into this Nicholas Pyle, also found some descds. of Levi-Caleb-Benjamin that may help some others. Unfortunately, I will be on vacation (to Vegas!) with my husband for the next few days (Fri-Fri). We're at such a point with our breakthroughs here, I literally hate leaving for this long! LOL! (Never thought I'd say such a thing! Only fellow researchers like you guys understand the dilemma! I won't have time to post these notes before I leave (I don't think). Grandpa's handwriting is tedious and the list is long. I have to re-type everything before I can post it. If I get time this afternoon, I'll try--otherwise, I'm out of commission til next weekend. Believe me, when I get back I'll be back with a vengeance! See ya!

    3. The line I'm working with goes back to John Pyle who was born in 1594 in Wiltshire, England and married Mary Withers. Their son, Nicholas N.2 (John1) was born 3-13-1625 in Wiltshire and died there 8-24-1691. He married Edith Musprat and they had 9 children, but I only have the following three names: Jehn Robert, b 1660 in Wiltshire, died 1730 Nicholas b 1666 in Wiltshire These three traveled to Chester County, PA in 1683. Nicholas3 (Nicholas N2, John 1) married in 1688 Abigail Bushell, daughter of John Bushell who died in Concord, PA in 1708. Nicholas and Abigail had 7 children. Again, I only have three names: Nicholas, b 2-26-1697, married Sarah Worrilow, daughter of John Worrilow and Ann Morris. Her sister Mary married Thomas Newlin. 1. Re: NEWTON PYLE
    2. Norman and Jean, As I said on Wednesday evening in a post to Peggy and the list, I am just now starting to do lookups again. I started working on Newton among others and have discovered a lot of information. For one thing, he apparently was born in S.C., not N.C. I printed off a LOT of material to post to you and the list. After I got back on line I discovered that you have unsubbed. I hope it is because you have gone on vacation. I will keep all of this information and post it after you return or in ten days, whichever comes first. If anyone else wants this now, I will go ahead and post it. Sara pyle@airmail.net Norman F.
