    2. Harry Liggett
    3. 27 Aug 1997 This information is being sent again for new members of the list. So far as I know, my Pyles were not Quakers but I am trying to get Hinshaw digitized to download to the Pyle list. I am seeking information on William Pyles (1809-1879) who lived in Washington County, PA. He had three children with his first wife whose surname was Clokey. Her first name is unknown. He had a dozen more children with his second wife, Mary Louisa SHIPLEY (1824-1917). I suspect Pyles came from MD. The parents of Mary Louisa -- Samuel SHIPLEY and Amelia RIDGELY -- were both born in England and lived in Anne Arundel County, MD. I believe someone already has checked the "Pyles Family of America" for me. I have summaries of a half dozen Pyles. Harry Liggett, 544 N. Firestone Blvd., Akron, OH 44301-2254 Internet: hliggett@ald.net Tel: (330) 724-5808) Surnames: BILDERBACK, BRUCE, COTTER, COUCH, DENNING, GOURLEY, HAMILTON, LIGGETT, McDONALD, PENN, PYLES, PRESTON, STACKHOUSE

    1. Reposts of our Lines
    2. Dear Pyle(s) cousins, As you know, we have added more new people. I think it would be a good time to re-post our lines or queries. It is probably a good idea to re-post every few weeks. Also, if you have been doing research you might want to share any findings or successes you may have had. Put in a few words about yourselves too. I don't want this group to become as impersonal as some maillists that I belong to. I feel like we are all related and trying to help each other. Some of you may be traveling this holiday weekend but I would like for each of us to post or repost the lines we are working on in the next few days. I guess we could call it "roll call". Thanks. 1. Jack PYLES-Marion Co.,WV
    2. Hi all! Has someone recently posted something about a Jack PYLES? Seems like it but haven't gone through all of the saved PYLE messages that I have. My father-in-law, who is a "lurker" on this list, sent some papers that show "Jack PYLES" as the father of Zachary Taylor PYLES. I know that Jack is a nickname for John, but I have really not been looking for Jack. If anyone has a Jack PYLES, please post it. I don't have a dob, might have been @1840-1850. 1. Welcome to the PYLE list
    2. Hi all, We want to welcome Kay Bolinger to the PYLE Family list! When you have time, please tell us a little about yourself and what branch of the PYLE family you are researching. All genealogical postings should be addressed to PYLE-L@rootsweb.com This also includes responses to queries, just click on "reply to all". Someone else may get a clue to an ancestor from reading the exchange of notes. If you have a message for someone of a personal nature, then you would certainly want to send that privately. Please do not send attachments to the list because there has been a problem with that on some servers. If you have a document that is too large to do a cut and paste, then post a description of it to the list to see who might want it sent directly. I can arrange to have information stored on a server for retrieval, just let me know. If you have any questions about the list or you are not sure of what to do, please e-mail me at pyle@airmail.net We are so glad to have you join us and look forward to hearing from you. Here's today's question: "I have hit a road block to further research my g-grandmother's family. All we know is that she was born in 1879 in Kansas and that her maiden name was Harris. The 1920 census index listed her place of birth as Kansas, it did not list a city or county. She was married in Colorado and lived in Colorado until her death in 1952. That's all the info my family has. We do not know of any siblings, or her parent's names. I would like to obtain a birth certificate, but I need to know the county in Kansas where she was born. I live in Colorado. Where do I go from here?" To post an answer to this question, please respond ASAP by sending e-mail to webmaster@ancestry.com. 1. HISTORY OF MONROE CO.,WV
    2. This is from the book that Rebecca was inquiring about last week. A HISTORY OF MONROE COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA, by Oren F. Morton, Regional Publ.Co.,Baltimore, 1974. "Among the Confederate soldiers who never came home was George I. PYLES, who was captured at Winchester, Sept. 19, 1864 and died at Point Lookout, Jan 18, 1865. Shortly after the war, a fire destroyed all of the headboards in the prison burial ground, thus making it impossible to identify grave 820. A few years later the state of Maryland had the remains of the prisoners of war reinterred in one common grave a mile distant. This mound and the monument thereon were transferred to the care of the United States. Jacob Pyles,(Sarah BAKER, 1818) lived between Salt Sulphur and Lillydale. His wife was a sister to Joseph, John and Frederick BAKER. His brother, Conrad lived and died in Sweet Springs valley, where it is thought their father, whose father is supposed to have borne the name Jacob, made settlement. Children of Jacob PYLES, Jr: George I. PYLES (Elizabeth ARNOT), John PYLES, Allen PYLES, Polly PYLES (George McCOY), Elizabeth PYLES (Lewis SPANGLER), Ellen PYLES (Henry W. ARNOT). John and Allen died soon after their return from the army. Children of George I. PYLES: Henry M. PYLES (Margaret WIKLE), Sarah E. PYLES, Addison A. PYLES (Ellen BELTS,1877), John W. PYLES (Fannie DIDDLE of M.P.), Mary A. PYLES (A.M. HUTCHINSON), Margaret J. PYLES (Richard MCNEER), George W. PYLES (Mary WIKLE), Martha E. PYLES (J.P. FISHER), Emma PYLES (R.W. HILL, 1888). A.A.,G.W., and Emma, and the widow went to Kansas. There are now 54 grandchildren and they are to be found in Monroe, Summers, Greenbrier and Logan, and in Brown County, Kansas. There are descendants of Conrad PYLES in Sweet Springs valley and in Hinton." That's all folks. Sara pyle@airmail.net

    2. Hi Cuzzies, Still searching on Joshua Pyle of PA. Just wanted you all to know, you can search at Http://www.ancestry.com/home/ged/main.htm There are 237 Pyle listed in the gedsom files (all in web page format). In reviewing this, there are dates and places to go along with the list of grandpa's notes that was previously posted. Since there have been many PYLE families posted and many I have found on the net, I am keeping 2 data bases, one of my line and one of all those I find. If anyone wants to email me a gedcom file or their notes I would be happy to add it to the data base and send you a copy of the complete database of all PYLE/PILE/PYLES/ PILES. THanks for all the posts from our cuzzies, we are one big family. Linda LGunzl@aol.com
