    1. Re: Books; Interlibrary loans
    2. I should have added to the previous message that your local may be able to borrow the books listed on the web site or held by the Library of Congress and other libraries which have online catalogs. Your library may be able to find these books in other libraries that will lend them by using OCLC an national network of library holdings that includes a majority but not all large libraries in the country. So identify the titles you want and let your local library staff attempt to track them down for you. Dave

    2. Sara and Pat, Sorry but I don't think it is that simple. At least the last half of the list is old data from a 1990 list of holdings at the Library of Congress. Its a little less clear what the first list is taken from. The Library of Congress, only in exceptional situations lends to anyone except congress members, their families, and members of their staffs. They may make photocopies of articles under certain conditions. For an up-to-date list of the collections of the Library of Congress go to: http://lcweb.loc.gov/homepage/lchp.html Wish there were easier access but for the most part one needs to go there to use the collections. 3. Ron, Thanks, but I don't believe we would want Uncle Jesse to make a movie of Guns Over The Carolinas. This is the story of Gen. Nathanael Greene and the author did not show Col. John in a very favorable light. Maybe 'country bumpkin' would more aptly describe the author's portrayal of him. (That's what my vengence was all about. I'm glad his name has been cleared.., at least in my mind) Doris

    2. Hi Pat, I went to the site you mentioned. You are absolutely correct. The names, call numbers, etc. are all listed for you to inquire at your library about. Books that are not in your library may be requested and you will be notified when they come in. Hope this helps. 1. Re: Indiana url
    2. Pat, The answer depends entirely on the individual library which owns the book. Many family histories and related publications are "out of print" and may not have had many copies printed in the first place. Most libraries will not loan older, rarer and often more fragile books in order to cut down on the wear and tear thus prolong the lives of the books. Some of the best genealogy collections must be used in person. Others will loan but maybe only to other libraries or onlly other libraries with whom they have some kind of reciprocal agreements. Others are more liberal. I am a librarian and I am sorry but there is no easy answer. Some genealogy societies loan to their members only and sometimes only for a fee. If you have specific questions, I will try to answer them. Dave

    3. Doris; Thanks for the thanks. I went to the library today and returned some books. Looked for more on Ernie, but the only thing they had was in the children's section and darned if some little tyke (maybe like me) had it out. I'm the Director of Operations for a High School and we do have "Here is your War" in our school library. I'm related to Stan Mack who does the cartoon in Modern Maturity each month and he came out with an illustrated paper back called "Stan Mack's Real life American Revolution." It was named the best book for teenagers for two years at the New York City Library. I had him send me a couple of books to try and sell for him. When I tried to buy a copy from the local bookstore, there was only one copy west of the Mississippi. I learned more about the Revolution from his book than they told me in school. (maybe I was absent that day) I seen the author James Tobin, who wrote the new book on Ernie called "Ernie Pyles War." he was on Booknotes a month ago and I rushed out and bought the book. I suppose you know that Ernie and his wife had a horrible marriage, but this new book reveals a side of Ernie I didn't know about. However, He and I are related close enough that I know what went on in his mind. The Pyles from day one were globetrotters. After all I enlisted in the army in 1955 just so I could travel. I did, I went to Korea. In 1979, I cruised the Mediteranian to follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great, unfortunately it was less than a month after the Hostage crisis in Iran. So timing is everything as far as we Pyles are concerned. Tell me about "Guns over the Carolinas." We might get Denver Dell Pyle to do a movie for us. I wrote to him and received a nice autographed picture of him as Uncle Jesse Duke. 3. Rita; Dr. John Jr.'s son, William was born around 1773 and married Elizabeth Kirby in Kentucky. Their Son William was born in Christain County, KY. around 1800 and he married Hannah Standlee. This William was one of the first ministers in the Christian church in Perry, IL. The story I put out about Dr. John came from Howard Pyle's bluebook, with some from Homer Pyle's "Colonel John Pyle and his people." Also in Howard's bluebook is the letter from the "Revolutionary Papers, Hall of Records," Annapolis, Maryland. Box 13, folder 7, original letters and history. This letter was dated April 26 deals with the capture of John Piles and his son when they first became "Regulators," Obviously they must have escaped. Dr. John Pyle Jr. was severely wounded just prior to the time that he and his father surrendered to Captain O'Neal. John Pyle Jr. was a Captain in the British Cavalry. Captain John was captured several times during the Revolution, but always managed to escape. The reference for these can be found in the D.A.R. Patriotic Index, pg. 552 also, "Dodson, Dotson, Lucas, Pyles, Rochester and Allied Families," by S. Emmett Lucas. I could send what I have abstracted to the list in three or four parets. I don't think this should involve any copyright infringement since I just pulled out what is there on Pyle for fair use and not for profit. 2. Ron Pyle
    3. Cousin Doni; The only reason I tagged on that "does Anyone really care" was to see if any one was out there and of course I had way too much schnapp's last night. Doctor John was born at Kennett Square, Chester Pennsylvania. This Nicholas line has always been a puzzle to me. Nicholas 2's daughter Mary married John Newlin. John Newlin and his brother were witness to the will of Doctor John Pyle in North Carolina, although they were all born in Concord Pennsylvania. The mystery in this story lies in the fact that John and Mary's son Eli, born at Cane Creek. North Carolina ended up back in Vermillion County, Indiana as neighbor of my gg-grandfather Robert Pyle. In fact part of the group settled in Dana, Indiana, where cousin Ernie was from. Dr. John's third child was Sarah, who married John Lindley, She was born in 1750 in Harford, Mayland. Our problem is that these people were globetrotters and must have had ant's in their pants, for they never stayed in one place very long. Where ever the action was they had their nose stuck in it. I have my Harvey line figured out back to 940 AD, The Mack's back to early 1500's and my ex-wifes back to 1400 in England. My ex-wifes family kept such excellent records that I followed them from 1975 to 1400 in three days. I have a good idea that when all is said and done, that we will find that John Pile, Gentleman, who landed in Maryland in 1642 with 17 others and 200 servants on the 'Ark' and the 'Dove' tie into this whole mess that we are trying to untangle. I'm supposing that Robert, Nicholas, Ralph, Francis and Richard are all related in some respect. Thanks for listening, Saturday night is my night to howl!
