    1. Availability of Pyle/Pile Book
    2. Interestingly enough, I called the local library to see if they had a copy and the answer was no. Beyond that they weren't much help locating it either. However, I contacted the Hesburgh Library at the University of Notre Dame and although they did not have it either, they were able to locate the nearest copy. Of all places, Kokomo, Indiana! About 2 1/2 hours one way. Does anyone have the email address for the publishing company. I'd like to send them a nice message to help encourage them to publish a fifth addition. I think that most of us have something we could contribute to improve on the previous addition and that could make it worth their while to print an updated edition. 1. The Howard T. Pyle Book
    2. I see so many references concerning the unavailability of Howard Pyle's book that I thought I would share this bit of info with you. The Interlibrary Loan System is a wonderful service. It works like this. If your library participates in this system, one may obtain any book that is available in any other library. For instance, just recently I made a trip downtown to our county library. I asked the librarian to order a book for me. I gave her the name of the book, the publisher and some other pertinent data. She turned to her computer and found the book in a library in Texas. She ordered it. It came in the following week. It cost me $3.17 to bring the book home and keep it for 3 weeks. Now I have no idea if libraries everywhere are able to do this and since I have not requested Mr. Pyle's book, I certainly can't gaurantee that it is available. But you can't lose anything by trying. 1. mapping locations
    2. For some of the newer members who may not be aware of all that the net has to offer, I am re-posting this link. Sara The GNIS mapping system at: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html will tell you the county, latitude & longitude, and other info for any location (town, cemetery, reservoir, stream, whatever) in the US and it will show you a map of the area with your location pinpointed. Just type in the name you're seeking, the state (use the 2-letter postal code, like VA for Virginia) and click on Send Query. It's extremely useful and even includes some extinct towns. Bookmark it.

    1. Addendum-New PYLE cousin!
    2. Hi again, After I sent the note about Dolores joining our list, I received this from her. Because she has a typing problem I will go ahead and post all of this for her. Sara ** Sara - we have probably seen rach other at the library & just don't know each other! This is the http I mentioned - might help someone across the ocean. It was my PA group not the MO group. My husband has Thomas Pyle d.1561, of Bopton, Wilts., Eng., so add him to the list too. Forgot to tell you that. Short note this time - my wrist does hurt - guess the stitches are healing. It will be a while before I can type with both hands. Waiting for dos & don'ts. Dolores I found a very large genealogy link site today, and wanted you folks to benefit from my discovery. It is called Ian's Genealogy Page: http://www.nor.com.au/business/imwd/genlinks1/ Hope you like it.

    1. Re: Richard and Lavina Piles
    2. As y'all will recall, I spoke with Howard just about a month ago and he indicated the publisher was interested in doing another printing because of all the calls and letters. (No doubt generated by some of our members!) <G> I am beginning to wonder if all of you are getting all of the mail because we just had this "conversation" not that long ago. At any rate, the last time the book was available it was selling for $99.50. I have no idea what the price will be if re-printed. 1. vacation
    2. Charlene Putman
    3. Hi All, Have not posted in awhile, but wanted to share a little of my vacation with you. Several days was spent looking for Pile's (died or alive). Went to Milburn, Graves Co. Ky. to Milburn Cem. We knew that my husband grandparents were buried there. Hubert L. Putman b. 1-2-1884,d.12-3-1946, Ruth Pile Putman b.4-4-1879, d. 11-7-1971. He did not know that his greatparents Richard Pile b. 9-17-1842, d. 4-7-1903, Elmina Jane Breckenridge Pile b. 5-15-1847, d. 11-20-1891, or his great great grandparents Joseph Van Meter Pile b. 2-18-1808, d. 6-17-1891, Mary E. Phillips Pile b. 12-8-1816, d. 11-17-1892 were buried there. Also found the following family members: Christopher Pyle b. 8-26-1851, d. 11-23-1890 Julia E. (wife of Christopher Pyle) b. 3-11-1860, d. 10-15-1912 B.F. (Benjamin) Pile b. 8-10-1857, d. 2-27-1915 Lillian M. Wilson (wife of B.F.Pile) b. 1-25-1868, d. 5-21-1929 Elmina Boswell Pile (wife of B.F. Pile) b. 4-5-1862, d. 7-24-1890 Joseph Garland Pile (son of B.F. Pile) b. 8-12-1892, d. 8-25-1895 F.R. Pile (Ferdinand) b. 1855, d. 1884 C.R. Pile b. 1-6-1825, d. 10-12-1907 Martha Ann wife of C.R.Pile b. 10-4-1850, d. 7-29-1931 I will have to make a return trip to this Cem., because while I was there is was raining like crazy and some to the tombstones needed cleaning, to make them readable. Next trip I'll be better prepared. Then went to St.Louis.Mo to visit his Aunt, and meet some descendants of Richard Pile. I got updates on 2 of his children Lela Pile and Kate Pile. Got names and addresses of people who might be able to give me update of some of his other children. The most wonderful thing that I was given was a picture of Richard Pile as a young man of 20 years old in his Civil War uniform. It just so happen this picture had his name and age written on the back. So I have been spending time making sure all of my pictures have names, dates and locations. I know I enjoyed my vacation and I think my husband did too. Charlene

Ron >> ----------------------------- 10/26/97 Ron, Is there an address I can write to and get on a mailing list or will it be available through the bookstores? I would be interested in writing them. With the information you gave me the other day, I could fill them in on Richard's children. I have all their names and dates. As a matter of fact, I have a photo of their headstone. It looked rather new. Someone in our family may have recently placed the headstone. It's a single headstone that lists all the names on one stone. I took a picture of it while I was there. They are buried in the Price Cemetary outside the very, very small town of Redford, Missouri. One interesting note too. Your message indicated 10 children and everything I have indicates 8. Two must have died very young or at birth. Based on the information I already have, I've determined the two missing are your #7 male, and either #1 or #2 girl. One thing I was unclear about. The names and addresses you sent me, are those people I can write to for more information? Thanks, Roger bigblkvet@aol.com

    1. Thomas Withers!
    2. Ron Pyle
    3. For some unknown reason have, 13 generations of the Thomas Withers family in my files. Would some one like that file? Thomas Withers was the father of Mary Withers, wife of John Pyle. It was sent to me in jumbled fle and you may want to straighten it out , but it is all there. I just don't feel justified in filling up rootsweb with it. Ron Pyle.

    3. Dolores; Do you have the Pyle book now, I have one and can look up whatever is needed. I also have 95 notes concerning the Pyle clan and will help anyway I can. I am searching for William Pyle, born 1775 in PA. He was the father of my gg-grandfather, Robert Pyle who the Pyle/Pile book says was born in VA., but who my g-grandmother Mary Mack Pyle stated was born in Pennsylvania in 1800. Robert Pyle was the g-grandfather of Ernie Pyle. 1. Genealogical confusion
    2. Hi cousins, The other evening I was at a funeral service for a Greek lady who was my neighbor. My husband and I were talking to another couple at the service who we had not met before. Imagine our surprise when they said their name is PYLE!! But, they were Greek. It seems the name had been Pyllopolis or something like that and had been changed when their ancestors came to this country. Mrs. Pyle said that she sometimes gets calls from people working on Pyle genealogy. <G> The daughter and son-in-law (also Greek) of the deceased lady are also my neighbors (22+ years) and their name is ANDERSON (Andropolous).
