Previously posted: Seeking information about: Miss Ivie Pyles, 107 Bellview Ave, Fairmont, WV. from about 1908 until 1957. Married c. 1952, to Roy Boyer b. 29 May 1906 d. Apr 1987. After Fairmont, moved to Yankeetown, FL where Roy died and I suspect, Ivie did, too. Roy had siblings in Florida as late as 1992. Both had SSN's issued in SD, where she spent the summer of 1951, as well as some other times earlier and later. Her brother (?) Albert spent much time working at the reservation school at Pine Ridge and Keystone, SD. Ivie was a teacher, and Sunday School teacher, too, active in the Presbyterian or Methodist church. She even won an award for developing an environmental studies programme, long before the environment became the issue it is today. I would very much like to learn more about Ivie, her cousin (?) Gladys, (spouse Ryland, possibly daughters Alma & Margie), sister (?) Esther, who served with the WAACs in Carlsbad NM 1943, and Fairfield CA in 1944, and her brother, cousin or uncle, Albert and his wife Nellie and daughter, Dorothy (nicknamed Dotty), and Clarence, who served in the USN in WWII. Her grandparents were Wilson & Clarissa Shahan, and her mother's name may have been Larra or Cary. Mr. C. Lee Snider originally owned the house on Bellview Ave. where Ivie lived with Rhodena Pyles (possibly her aunt), and sold it to Ivie before he died in 1943 or 1944. Beyond this, I have nothing but the names of some mostly maiden lady teacher friends who are now dead or unable to communicate or to be traced. Linda Now, for the news ....... I got a very nice break, courtesy of several helpful people who did lookups for me in their resources. So I will share what I received. These Pyles were most likely all living in VA or WV. Through the efforts of an acquaintance of Ivie's, I've also had a letter dictated to a caregiver, by a teacher and longtime friend of Ivie Pyles Boyer. The acquaintance knew better a mutual friend who I mentioned in my letter-to-the-editor appeal for information. Ivie's friend cleared up some of my misconceptions, and reiterated the respect she generated, amongst staff and students during all of her teaching career. She also lead me to believe that the birth date in the SSDI is off a year. I found one error for certain, that of Ivie's mother's death, as I have correspondence to her and from other family members that indicates she lived at least until 1949. In a message dated 97-11-18 04:29:28 EST, you write: << Many postings listed Joshua as the son of Job Pyle who married Elizabeth Bennett ??does anyone have their children?? Thanks in advance. Linda >> ----------------- I recently had some photos developed from our cemetary in missouri and found about a dozen new Piles for my research. Unfortunately, most all of them died as small children or young teens. I find the name Job Pyle interesting as one of the children on the family headstone is for a child named Job Piles (1854-1875), son of Thomas and Louisa Piles. I wouldn't think Job would be a common name. I haven't heard it mentioned much. I wonder if there is some relationships here. Other names on the headstone were: Ferby, Joshua, Jefferson, Paralee, and Missouri. Children of Richard and Tennessee Piles were: Julie E., Paralee, Richard, and Cora. Any information would be helpful. I have scanned photos in JPG format if anyone is interested. Roger bigblkvet@aol.com

I have alot of my family that are Piles from Reynolds County Missouri. My gggg-grandmother (Ferba Ann Piles) had a brother names Thomas Piles. He had a son named James Piles. I believe his wife went by the nickname Lizzie. I don't know about any of their children, but Thomas Piles had a sister named Lucinda. I have more information if you find there is a connection here. Dear group, After December 1st, archives will no longer be obtained by e-mail. We are now being signed on to a new method of obtaining archives. To see a sampling, please go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists At the present time work is underway for setting up the current archives and RootsWeb will set up the older RootsWeb archives and the Maiser archives with a search engine like the one for Roots-L. For a sample of what this will be like, go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/example.html I realize that this is news to most of you but I believe this will be a much simpler way of obtaining archived messages once this is all set up. Of course, the archived messages will be more easily available to random browsers as well. If this is troublesome to anyone please let me know. Any discussion is always welcome. Also, a simple reminder to please send a copy of all genealogy messages to the list. Thanks. Sara RootsWeb Sponsor List Maintainer: PENNY and PYLE
Ok cousins, finally I got a hint....my aunt says that we are related to the war correspondant Ernie Pyles via my Daniel Boone Pyles son Len Pyles. So that means that a lot of the information I got before that was sending me off in the wrong direction. So....here is my favor...who has Ernie PYLES line? How far back with what information of members of family is available to me? I figure if I can start with him...I can perhaps find that elusive place we connect and then! I can do some real research! Linda, From research done by one of my Pyle cousins, she says that according to Job Pyle's will of 1751 he leaves his plantation at Marborough to two sons, Amos and Caleb. To his daughter, Ann, he gives 150 pounds. These are the only children I know of. I don't have the names of the children's spouses except that Caleb Pyle married Sophia House. According to the Quaker records from Kennet MM, Job Pyle was dismissed in 1742 for marriage out of discipline. Elizabeth Bennett Pyle was also dismissed the same year for marriage out of unity. I don't know the reasons behind their dismissal but obviously they were counseled not to be married and did anyway. One possible reason could be that Job's mother was Olive Bennett and Elizabeth and Olive may have been too closely related (this is my theory only and I have no proof that this is the reason, nor do I know whether they were actually related or not but they both were Bennetts). Hope this answers your question. Dawn Myers myers@cobweb.net

I am new to the list and I would like to say thank you to those who have helped me already. I am searching for information on a Malinda Pyles/Piles born in either Ala. or Ms. Today I went to the Genealogy Library and I found a marriage license for a Charity A. Pyle and Daniel S. Beacham on June 16, 1840 Sumter Co. Ala. then in Claiborne Co. Ms. I found them on the 1850 census. Living with them was a Balinda Pyles 18 yr. of age born in Ala. Was their father Samuel Piles of Sumter Co. Ala and could the name Balinda possible be Malinda? Would someone happen to know? Thanks, Irene
Finally found Joshua PYLE, went to Siloam Cemetery in Bethel, Delaware CO., PA. I was looking for Thomas Paynter and Esther Ann PYLE PAYNTER, tears of joy came to me as I see his marker right next to his daughter. He died March 17, 1872. Unfortunatly no birth date on his stone. Many postings listed Joshua as the son of Job Pyle who married Elizabeth Bennett ??does anyone have their children?? Thanks in advance. Linda
