    1. List Owner Message
    2. Dear Folks, A couple of reminders: 1. When answering someone's note, please edit as much as possible of the original note, retaining only as much as necessary to retain the meaning. 2. Now that the new archives are up, avoid putting any personal information such as telephone numbers in your posts. Not that I expect "bad" people to be surfing all of those genealogy posts but you never know nowadays. When it is necessary to give your address or telephone number to someone do it by private e-mail. 3. Our old (from mid-July) archived messages aren't in the new format as yet but expect they will be in a couple of weeks. Our archives at the new site date back to Nov. 18. 3. Irene, I just re-posted my Line to the list for those new. Brenda, Can you help Irene? I've gone through my database and this seems to be Samuel Eason Pyle's line. You may have more info on them than I. Samuel E.'s son, John, married a Malinda Threadgill and she says that a Balinda or Malinda was living with Charity Ann (Pyle) and Daniel Beacham on one of the census. (sorry, Irene, I forgot which year). Good luck, Irene, hope you can find her. Doris

    3. In the coming days I will update the John Curry Pyles Line for the list. I have much information as John Curry Pyles is indeed my 1st Great Grandfather, Milton Fortney Pyles is my Grandfather (he only knew my brother and myself before he died in 1949) and my father is Charles Howard Pyles. I'm not as good at this list as the rest of you, so bear with me on this one. Laura Ivie Pyles Boyer was my 1st cousin 1 generation removed. I have information about Clarence Curry Pyles, my Uncle whose wife Peggy still survives and Milton Ray (my uncle Ray) who was a Navy Vet (I'm being assisted by my 1st cousin Kevin (son of Ray) on this one. Curry's wife lives near Lima Ohio with her Stepdaughter Pamela. Her Stepson Michael also lives in the same area. I never gave it much thought until just now that my Uncle Ray and Uncle Curry always used their middle names as do I now that my father has been gone some 27 years. Married c. 1952, to Roy Boyer b. 29 May 1906 d. Apr 1987. After Fairmont, moved to Yankeetown, FL where Roy died and I suspect, Ivie did, too. Roy had siblings in Florida as late as 1992. Both had SSN's issued in SD, where she spent the summer of 1951, as well as some other times earlier and later. Her brother (?) Albert spent much time working at the reservation school at Pine Ridge and Keystone, SD. Ivie was a teacher, and Sunday School teacher, too, active in the Presbyterian or Methodist church. She even won an award for developing an environmental studies programme, long before the environment became the issue it is today. I would very much like to learn more about Ivie, her cousin (?) Gladys, (spouse Ryland, possibly daughters Alma & Margie), sister (?) Esther, who served with the WAACs in Carlsbad NM 1943, and Fairfield CA in 1944, and her brother, cousin or uncle, Albert and his wife Nellie and daughter, Dorothy (nicknamed Dotty), and Clarence, who served in the USN in WWII. Her grandparents were Wilson & Clarissa Shahan, and her mother's name may have been Larra or Cary. Mr. C. Lee Snider originally owned the house on Bellview Ave. where Ivie lived with Rhodena Pyles (possibly her aunt), and sold it to Ivie before he died in 1943 or 1944. Beyond this, I have nothing but the names of some mostly maiden lady teacher friends who are now dead or unable to communicate or to be traced. Linda Now, for the news ....... I got a very nice break, courtesy of several helpful people who did lookups for me in their resources. So I will share what I received. These Pyles were most likely all living in VA or WV. Through the efforts of an acquaintance of Ivie's, I've also had a letter dictated to a caregiver, by a teacher and longtime friend of Ivie Pyles Boyer. The acquaintance knew better a mutual friend who I mentioned in my letter-to-the-editor appeal for information. Ivie's friend cleared up some of my misconceptions, and reiterated the respect she generated, amongst staff and students during all of her teaching career. She also lead me to believe that the birth date in the SSDI is off a year. I found one error for certain, that of Ivie's mother's death, as I have correspondence to her and from other family members that indicates she lived at least until 1949. 1. Re: What Pyle book??
    2. Hi Jeanie, The book that is referred to most of the time is Howard Pyle's large book about the Pile-Pyle family. It is currently out of print but a few of us on the list own copies. Howard, who is getting on in years, says that he may re-print, but who knows. There are some copies in libraries but I don't know all locations. The ones of us that have the book are willing to do lookups. I am sorry if you didn't get a response before, I am still working on getting caught up. If you don't mind, could you re-post your line/query and I will see if I can find something. The line I am working on hasn't linked to the info in the book yet either. <G> Sara Jeanie H.
