    3. Vicki; I knew the name sounded familiar, but alas, I have so many names in my files now, I just jump at postings like a fish to the bait, whenever anything comes in. We did not get to take our vacation back to the old homestead in Ohio that I had planned for this year, it seems as if Angie decided to have a heart attack along about May 31st. That sidelined us for the summer. Thats what I get for marrying a younger model, they don't make them like they used to.(Family joke, so it's okay) You should have given us a call and we would have been glad to meet you for coffee, tea or whatever and if you weren't in a hurry you could have stopped by for some idle chat. I was in the little town of Guala, Ca. this summer and stopped at the hotel there for lunch. As I was paying the bill, I asked the waitress if she knew this person that I share e-mail with from that town. She didn't, but the guy waiting behind me said thats my "bud", and while he and I were talking the waitress dialed his number and 5 minutes later we were face to face. Small world these days. Thanks for the additional info and the response. I descend from the other of the two sons mentioned above, Richard Pile, who married his cousin, Elizabeth Sprigg. The PILE spelling remained in our line until it reached my grandfather, Thomas Pendleton PYLE, born May 3, 1892 in Adair Co., Kentucky. His siblings remained PILE but for some reason, unknown to us, his name changed. My grandfather left Kentucky for California as a young man, marrying my grandmother in 1917. 2. Today's DALLAS MORNING NEWS carried the following on pg.33-A Headline: Actor Denver Pyle dies at 77 From the Associated Press, Los Angeles Denver Pyle, a character actor best known as Uncle Jesse on television's "The Dukes of Hazzard", has died of lung cancer. He was 77. Mr. Pyle died Thursday at Providence St.Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, hospital officials said Friday. Less than two weeks ago, the actor mustered the strength to attend the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Mr. Pyle's lanky frame brought a Western authenticity to parts in such movies as "The Alamo", "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and "Cahill-U.S. Marshal". He also appeared in such TV series as "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke". Mr. Pyle was a TV veteran. He played Caleb on "Gunsmoke" and Mr.l Darlin' on "The Andy Griffith Show". He also was a cast member on "The Doris Day Show" in the late 1960's and early 70's and "The Life & Times of Grizzly Adams", also in the 70's. On "The Dukes of Hazzard", which ran from 1979 to 1985, Mr. Pyle played a grizzled and cranky relative who offered sage advice to two Southern country cousins as they crossed paths with the law in their souped-up car. He appeared in a "Dukes" reunion TV movie this year. In recent years, Mr. Pyle turned personal appearances as Uncle Jesse into fund-raisers for children's charities, his assistant Karen Lackey said. A native of tiny Bethune, Colo., he was named Denver after his mother's favorite city. His acting career began in California theater productions, with his first movie part coming in 1947 with "The Guilt of Janet Ames", which co-starred Rosalind Russell and Melvyn Douglas. -end-

    1. PYLE book look-up
    2. Don Pyle
    3. Back in early Dec., there was some e-mail about Howard Pyle’s large book about the pile-pyle family and there were some people that said that they would do look-ups, but that they needed as much information as possible to ascertail if they had the right person. The information I have comes mostly from the 1850 census of Clayton Twp, Adams Co. Illinois ,the 1860 Pea Ridge Twp, Brown Co. Il. (adjoining townships) and the Barton Co, Missouri Vital Statistics on Robert Pyle. Would someone please try to look them up and give me any available information? Robert Pile born 21 Aug or 31 Aug 1825 in unknown location in Indiana. Married: Temperance (Tempy) Clark 19 Mar 1848 in Brown Co. Il. Died: 7 Apr. 1889 in Lamar, Barton Co. Mo. Buried: old cemetary in Lamar. (This is an unplatted, unmarked cemetary, with no records) Temperance’s birthstate and age is different on every census from 1850 to 1910 she appears to have been born in the South between 1830 and 1835. 1st son Alfred born abt 1848 in Il. (This is my great grandfather) Died: unknown 2nd son Henry Born 04 Oct 1850 in Clayton Twp, Adams Co. Il. Died: 18 Dec. 1921 Lamar, Barton Co. Mo. 3rd son John Born abt 1853 in Il Died: unknown, (my dad can remember him) 4th daughter M.E. (?) abt 1855 in Il. Died: unknown 5th son Elbert also listed as Warthegin abt 1857 Il. Died: unknown 6th son Robert Born: abt 1862 in Il. Died: unknown 7th son Newton Born: abt 1869 in Mo. Died: unknown 8th daughter Lina Born abt 1873 in Mo. Died: unknown Also in the 1850 and 1860 there was a Daniel Pile that appeared to be in the same family grouping as Robert. He was born abt 1790 in Illigible state. The next line is almost illigible, but I believe that it is Nancy born abt 1792 in illigible state. According to the INDEX TO PROBATE RECORDS, ADAMS COUNTY, ILLINOIS, Robert died on 31, July 1871. Does the book have information to tell if he was Robert’s father? If you can find any information it would be greatly appreciated. Even known what county in Indiana Robert was born in would help a lot.

    3. Peggy: Grandpa's notes are my postings, retained from handwritten notes he made while researching our family line. I transcribed some of them for the list. My line goes back to William Rowan Pyle b. 1821, probably in Floyd County, GA. He then removed to Arkansas and was among the early settlers of SW Arkansas. I'm looking for his parents. Before Grandpa died, he left me the material for his second book about the settling of this territory. I have recently finished the book and am about to have it printed. I would be interested in knowing if anyone on the list might be interested in purchasing a copy for $10 or less. If so, I will need to add this count to the number my family is wanting to have published. This book is about William Rowan Pyle and his thirteen children and their descendents. It is a charming book, too, about how things were done in the old days with chapters entitled things like: Mud Chimneys, Lye Soap and Cornshuck Mops, Insects and Pests, Bee Trees, The Stock Law, The Boll Weevils, Amendment 18, and several chapters on the making and running of moonshine whiskey. (Oops, the secrets out, my Pyle line was one of plenty of moonshiners! Grandma is turning over in her grave right now!) If you think you might be interested in a copy (or Sara said some of you might want to buy two to donate to a library) please e-mail me at RiTA33699@aol.com and I will count you in. Thanks! Merry Christmas! Rita P.S. Leaving GA for Arkansas today to see family for Christmas. Be home on December 30! Happy New Year!

    3. My PILES line started in Muskingum Co, Ohio went to Indiana and then settled in Schuyler Co, Illinois around 1880. Joshua PILES was born May, 1831 in Ohio. He married Caroline SHUE same place on Jan 27, 1853. Children born in Ohio were Isabella, William and Theodore, my G-grandfather. In Indiana they had five daughters: Jane, Harriett, Rosa, Emma and Emily. I don't know who William or the five daughters married. Thepdore married Sarah LAMBERT from Brown Co, Ill and Isabella married Stephen DOUGLAS. I don't know if we have any connections or not. Les Lee
