    1. Wynne Pyle
    2. Jshether
    3. In reference to Mary Emily (Mollie) Nail Md. Jasper Garney Pyle Dec. 24, 1880 Fannin Co. Texas. (Daughter) Wynne Belle Pyle. Granddaughter of William H.(Bill) and Celia (Terry) Nail. Wynne Pyle, concert pianist, played command performances before the crown heads of Europe and was in demand all over the united States. She played with all the noted symphonys in the States. Her appearance in New York, as written in the newspaper, "The Morning Telegraph", Sunday, August 3, 1919, Fort Worth, Texas. "Beautiful, Wynne Pyle, the Texas Pianist, is to be engaged with the New York Symphony Orchestra, as a Major soloist. Miss Pyle has a fine, strong almost masculine tone, and she has played with practically every large Orchestra in America. In addition, she achieved distinction with European Orchestras, in the days preceding the War." The newspaper clipping appears with a picture of the group. Wynne Pyle, was a beautiful woman, with what appears to be jet black hair, and wearing the dress of the '20s which is loose fitting, long-waisted and comes to the ankles. She appears to be a tall slender woman, with graceful lines. Harold Bauer, appears to be a bit on the heavy side, round full face with his hair much like one would picture a concert pianist, full and slightly long. When Mrs. Oradel (Nuhn) Goodpasture was a child, she took piano lessons from Wynne Pyle's cousin, Elizabeth Mary (Lizzie) Pyle of Ladonia, Fannin county Texas. She remembers that Wynne sent Lizzie all her stage gowns and Lizzie has closets full of the most beautiful clothes you ever saw, but having nowhere to wear them, she kept them. Oradel also remembers that Oradel was not the best of students when it came to studying her music, so Lizzie would encourage and bribe her with the promise of giving her some of Wynne's music which has her signature on the sheets. My mother, Annie Lee Pyle McCoy copied everything she could find on the Pyles, whether they were her family or not. Jshether

    1. Mary Pyle Newlin
    2. Jshether
    3. This is the rest of the story about MARY PYLE NEWLIN BY HARVEY NEWLIN Edith Pyle, who married Nicholas Newlin, was Mary's aunt; and Nicholas Newlin was the uncle of her husband, John. Mary's uncle, Dr. Samuel Pyle, had gone to England for his medical training. He and his wife, Sarah Pyle, had nine children: the second, John Pyle, became the most famous. He too, was a physician. He married Sarah Baldwin, daughter of John and Hannah B. Baldwin. The stream of emigrants from Pennsylvania carried them to the Cane Creek community where they acquired land and built a home overlooking Cane Creek, just opposite Lindley's Mill. Dr. Pyle's home was about three miles from that of his cousin, Mary Pyle Newlin. During the Regulator Movement (1768-1771) his sympathies were with the aggrieved citizeens and he is known to have helped some of them save their property from confiscation by unscrupulous tax collectors. During the War for Independence, like many of the leading citizens of the colonies, Dr. Pyle opposed the drive for separation from Great Britian. As a colonel in the Loyalist army he was seriously wounded in Feburary, 1791, when the three hundred men under his command were cut to pieces by Colonel "Lighthorse Harry" Lee's cavalry, whom the Loyalists persisted in believing to be the expected British Cavalry they had never seen. Colonel Pyle was later captured and paroled. At the Battle of Lindley's Mill, fought within sight of his home, he cared for the wounded of both armies, Whigs and Loyalists alike. The fact that the Government of North Carolina did not confiscate his land indicates that he was held in esteem for few of the Loyalists who held large tracts of land escaped this vindictive measure. 3. Hi! Everyone, I know that most of the time I am silent and just read and save most of what is discussed on the list. This time I do have to respond because this Mary Pyle and her husband John Newlin are my 6th great grandparents. I would very much like to see the rest of the article and hope it will fill in any gaps I might have, such as dates. For anyone that doesn't know there is a book that was published in 1965 and written by Algie I. Newlin about this couple and the rest of the family. It is titled "The Ancestors and Decendants of John Newlin and Mary Pyle". It may be hard to locate but maybe someone on the list has it. I usually go to the local LDS here and look at the copy they have. My mother has a copy and I am sure there are many Newlin's that hace a copy as well. It is about 2" thick and goes back to at least before they came to America. 3. Several people have asked for the obituary for Denver Pyle. There was one in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette on December 27, 1997. I've made 10 copies and I'll send one to anyone who sends me their address. This obit includes a picture and also claims he was named Denver after his mother's favorite city (which we now know is incorrect) Please send me your address to my e-mail address and not to the list. If you put "Denver Pyle's Obit" in the subject I'll be able to spot it easier. Happy New Year! Dawn Myers dmyers@cobweb.net -- mailto:dmyers@cobweb.net

    3. This article is taken from information at Utah G. S. Title : Newlin Family This is only part of the article. It is quite long & will send the rest tomorrow. MARY PYLE NEWLIN Mary(Pyle) Newlin's ancestry has been traced back to 1594, to the birth of her great- great- grandfather, John Pyle, in Wiltshire, England. In 1620 he married Mary Withers. Their son, Nicholas N. Pyle,(born 13 Mar 1625, died 24 Aug 1621) married Edith Musprat, 22 Sep 1656. They had nine children. Three of them- John, Robert and Nicholas emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1683. This Nicholas, Mary's grandfather, was born in 1666. In September 1688 he married Abigail Bushell, daughter of Joseph Bushell. Marys grandfather Pyle emigrated from Wiltshire, England to Pennlylvania, in the same year that her husbands grandfather and great-grandparents went from Ireland to the same locality in Pennsylvania. Nicholas and Abigail had seven children. Nicholas. their third child, (and the third in succession by that name, in Marys line of ancestors was born 26 Feb. 1697. He married Sarah Worrilow. They were Mary Pyle Newlin's Parents. Sarah Worrilow was the daughter of John and Ann (Maris) Worrilow. The parents of Ann Maris were George and Alice Maris of Worcestershire, England. jshether@aol.com

    3. Bill; I know there are many mistakes in the book and some of them are causing me much anguish. However it is the best we have at the time. I was running out of time last night or would have given you more information. This I believe is also my line through Zachariah Piles 5 from Francis 1. Your line I believe, barrring more mistakes would be: William Henderson Piles, sixth generation, born 7-4-1783, PG County Henry Humphrey, fifth generation, born 1761, bapt. 1763 St. John's Register. Married 1779 in PG county to Elizabeth Wallingford. From hall of records PG. County index to Marriages (1777 to 1886) by Helen W. Brown Francis Piles, fourth generation, b. ca 1730-31, married the widow Dorothy Lanham in 1764 John Piles, third generation, born 1690, married Mary Hunter in 1721. Francis Piles second generation ? Francis Piles, 1st generation, born 1660, Will probated 1717 in PG. County, Md. If you come across any information concerning Zachariah Piles in this family line I would like to have it. There is a glaring mistake concerning Zachariah in the Francis area of the Pyle book and I need to get through there to link to William Pyle born 1775 in Pennsylvania. The Pyle book was published in Kokomo, Indiana by Howard T. and Jane (Weaver) Pyle, 1546 West Jefferson Street, Kokomo, In. 46901 The Pyles have run out of books and are considering a fifth printing, but are up in age and may not get around to it. It's a great book and I can't believe that they were able to accumulate so much information before the computer age. Ron Pyle ---------- : From: William S. 3. The PYLES that I am interested in lived in the District of Columbia and in Prince George County area of Maryland. I know very little about them however, and have not been able to find out much about ancestors before the time of my great grandfather. My great grandfather was John Thomas Donaldson Pyles who owned many grocery stores in the District of Columbia during the early part of this century. His father Thomas E. Pyles was a Union Soilder during the Civil War and died on December 8, 1867. He and quite a few other Pyles are buried in Congressional Cemetery in Washington D.C. John Thomas Donalson Pyles had a sister, Marian O. Pyles who was a graduate in medicine and surgery from Howard University, and who taught physiology in the Brooklyn High School, in Brooklyn, NY. I am interested in finding out more about Marian O. Pyles, and perhaps finding out if any records from Howard University pertaining to her from the late 1800's still exist. And of course I am interested in the ancestory of Thomas E. Pyles. Thomas E. Pyles was born 18 March 1822 Thomas E. Pyles married Elizabeth A. Walker 19 Nov 1850. Marion O. Pyles was born 30 Sept 1853. Marion O. Pyles died in November 1920. I would appreciate all the help anyone would care to offer. Thank you..... Bill

    3. Do you have the documentation on John Pyle, b. 1760 that married Mary Maxwell, being the son of John Pyle, MD ? My ggg grandfather, Samuel Pyle (who married Charity Eason) was a brother to that John, b. 1760. I have searched many places for that documentation and would love to know your source. Doris

    2. Dear cousins, Would y'all please try to have the subject line correspond to your messages. If you are clicking on "reply to", I think most servers will let you change whatever is in the subject area. I don't want to inconvenience anyone but some folks simply delete if they don't like what the subject is and may be missing out on some interesting threads. (;-> Sara

    3. Hi Shirley, Welcome to the Pyle List. All of my Pile family spell their name with an "I" instead of a "Y". Going back in time, my roots are mainly from Missouri, then back to Illinois, then possibly Tennessee or North Carolina. Roger Scott bigblkvet@aol.com

    3. Sorry made it sound like the song "I'm My own Grandpa" Vernon's father was my Fathers brother making us 1st cousin's. I never had a chance to meet him though. In fact; I have not met any of my father's relatives with the exception of one other cousin and that was years ago. Scott

    3. Scott, In a message dated 97-12-28 09:29:03 EST, you write: << Actually Denver was a name he took up after going to Hollywood. His real name was Vernon named after his Uncle. Who was also my Uncle. >> Does this make you a brother or a cousin of Vernon "Denver" Pyle? Liane Bamburg Lbamburg@aol.com

    3. Greetings, Cousins, Several boxes of old family photos have recently been un-earthed, and to my great joy there were several photos of previously unseen ancestors--including my gr-grandmother, Martha Lucinda Pyle Hooper. If anyone has this lady in their line and would like a laser copy, let me know. Ah, there is joy in Mudville occassionally!! Jeanie Hooper Reed
