    3. Richard, Write to the Preston County Chamber of Commerce and they'll mail you a Preston County map if you ask for it. Most of these are on it. I just got back from there and I got one of the maps. Not many cemeteries on it though. Bird's Creek is where my family is from and it's just North of Newburg on WV 92. Bird's Creek Road runs from 92 over to Just south of Kingwood. Only a few miles. I'm from Randolph County where Laurel Mountain is. It's just North of Elkins off US 219. I ran across it at the West Virginia state archives when I made a trip there about a year and a half ago. It's an older book, but it is absolutely wonderful. Something that I found that you should keep in mind when you look for these little places in WV is that their names changed! I was looking for a place called Ruby, WV. I contacted all kinds of people and looked in all kinds of atlases to no avail. When I went to the archives, I asked one of the archivists if he had ever heard of it. He had not, but he showed me the book. I looked in there, and, sure enough, there it was. Ruby was originally called Fraziers Bottom, and, for some unknown reason around the time of the Hoover administration, its name changed to Ruby. After some time, the name changed back to Fraziers Bottom. Very odd if you ask me! Anyway, I don't have the citation details of the book with me right now, but if you're interested I can get them at home and let you know. John Means Columbus, OH [email protected] In reading various e-mails I came across several "place" names in Preston County, WV e.g. Preston Glades--Birds Creek--Wonderly Cemetery--Laurell Mountain--Fairax Pond Is there any one out there that could identify the exact(?) map locations of the above? Also if available---where could I pick up such a map. Many thanks for your help. Their website is www.delorme.com Couldn't find a Preston Glades..did find Preston (a town) just south of Kingwood, on Hwy 72, on Cheat River. Bird's Creek runs roughly parallel to Hwy. 92 between C.R. 58 and C.R.92-6. At least that is the way it looks. That is kind of southwest of Kingwood. Fairfax Pond appears to be a little northeast of Bird's Creek. It is NW of Kingwood, situated eastwardly between Reedsville and Arthurdale. You can also look at sites on the net by going to: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Wonderly Cemetery and also Laurel Mountain can probably be found at the url given just above. 2. Have been reading this correspondence and I'm wondering. . . One of my notes on my g-grandfather (William Cyrus Pyle) says he was born in St. Joseph, MO - 3/21/1875; however, his death certifiticate info in CA lists birth state as KY, as does his wife, Maudie Josie Gish's death certificate info (on-line only - have not obtained originals). Is there info on the marriages/children of their children and could it be noted on this list?? Thank you.

    2. Grasping at straws here trying to research my Mary Ann Pyle that was born June 27, 1827, in either Grant or Delaware County, Indiana. Don't know parents names, but her obituary in 1912 listed two sisters; Sarah J. Haynes and Rebecca Schrader. 1. [PYLE] Benjamin PYLE & Nancy GISH
    2. Saw your note on the PYLE Rootsweb list. Benjamin Pyle is my wife's g.g.grandfather. We have traced Benjamin and Nancy back as far as their marriage in Morgan County, IL but we were unable to establish who his parents were. I have been researching this family along with Peggy Sue Pyle, a distant relative of my wife. How did you establish that Benjamin is the son of Nicholas Pyle JR. and that he was born in Christian Co., KY? One of the things on my list of items to do is to obtain a copy of the 1840 and 1850 census for Cass Co., IL and search for any PYLE and GISH families. There are no PYLE families in Morgan Co., IL on either census. However, in 1837 the northern portion of Morgan Co. became the southern portion of Cass Co. There is an Abraham GISH that owned several parcels of land in southern Cass Co. I believe that Nancy "might" be one of his daughters. Another researcher believes that Nancy was a foster child, born in Germany, and took on the name of her foster parents. Around 1846 Benjamin and Nancy moved to Delaware Co. Iowa. Prior to 1870 the family moved to Lawrence Co., MO. Benjamin died in 1875 and Nancy died in 1905. Both are buried in Fairview Cemetery near Marionville, MO. Please contact me for further information on this family. Ken Soper [email protected]

    2. Hello all you Pyle's et al. I am looking for my g-g-grandparents' Pyle - in Henderson, KY. My g-grandfather was William Cyrus Pyle, b. 3-21-1875, m. Maudie Josie Gish, who had one brother, Jim Gish. I have a picture of William's parents but there are no names on the back other than "Jack's dad's mom and dad" - Jack, Ernest Bethel Pyle, was my grandfather - another Ernest Pyle, but only famous to me! William had at least two brothers, Walter and Dennis and maybe a George Pyle, all from Henderson, KY. Emigrated to Los Angeles in 1925. Anyone have any info that might help, it sure would be appreciated! Thank you. Julie Pyle Hale Simi Valley, CA aka [email protected]
