    3. I have no information in my files for a White surname. I do have a Sarah Ann Pyle, daughter of Peter Pyle and Mariah Davis. This Peter Pyle (1809-1879 on his tombstone) is buried at the Pyle Cemetery in DeSoto Parish, LA north of Logansport. Mariah Davis died before 1843. Peter's second wife, Melissa (Medissa) Bridges Pyle (1820-1902) is also buried there. All of these people were from GA. 3. Does anyone have data on a Dr. William Pyle who was born before 1782? I found him listed in the Kentucky Land Grants. He was given 200 acres on 5/27/1803 and 320 acres on 8/22/1803 in Christian County, Kentucky. He had to be a person with a family and over twenty one years of age to receive the Grants. He was listed just below Abner Pyle. I have seen several DR. Pyle's,this is the first DR. William Pyle. George [email protected]

    3. Hi-- Hib's stepfather's name is Marion Swingle. I think they were married in Cedar County, MO--but I haven't confirmed this. Two other siblings were listed Clara L. and Donmont. Clara was 14 years old and born in Kansas per the census. I think her middle name was Lake and she married a man whose last name was Farmer. Donmont was also born in Kansas and was 10 years old at the time of the census in 1880. Does this bring any thoughts to anyone? I am finding these questions and answers very helpful! Information on the PYLE siblings in particular (ages and places of birth) would give some clues as to when Carter married, when he died, and where the family was living (e.g., was there a KS connection). Might get an idea when the widow remarried as well. All of this would benefit Treece in her search. Jim Smee Pittsburgh PA

    3. Past and Present of Marshall County, Iowa, 1912, B. F. Bowen & Co., Indianapolis, Ind. Vol. 2, page 1079-80 Ora A. Pyle In his labors Ora A. Pyle, a progressive young farmer of Eden township, Marshall county, has not permitted himself to follow in the rut in a blind, apathetic way, but has studied and experimented and thus secured the maximum returns from his enterprising efforts, while he has so ordered his course at all times as to command the confindence and regard of the people of the community in which he lives, being a man of honarable business methods and advancing whatever tends to promote the public welfare in any way. Mr. Pyle was born in Marshall county, Iowa, November 2, 1878, and he has practically resided here all his life. He is the son of J. B. and Anna (Perry) Pyle, the former born July 19, 1846, in Ohio, and the latter October 17, 1846 in Illinois. They came to Iowa in the early development of the country and, by thrift and good management, became well established, and they are now residing in a commodious home in Melbourne, this state. They are the parents of five children, namely: James, born August 14, 1868, lives at Red Oak, Montgomery county, Iowa; Emma Perry, born in May, 1870, also lives at Red Oak; Mrs. Nellie Gilligan lives in State Center township; Ora A. of this review; Russell, born October 27, 1884, lives in Eden township, this county. Ora A. Pyle grew to maturity on the home farm and was educated in the local schools. He started the new year right in 1902 by uniting in marriage on the first day of January, with Floy M. Johns, who was born in Jasper county, Iowa, June 17, 1884, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Smith) Johns, the former born in Pennsylvania in 1850, and his death occurred in Jasper county, Iowa, in Mary, 1907; the mother was born in Illinois, September 15, 1850, and she is living in Jasper county, Iowa. There were ten children in this family, namely: George Edwin lives in Jasper county, where Charles Henry also resides; Adam Leslie lives in Harvard, Iowa; Alonzo Forest and Ira Jacob both reside in Jasper county; Mrs. Sadie Jane Smith lives in Red Oak, Iowa; Mrs. Henrietta Bear lives in Jasper county; Colonel Arthur lives in Jasper county. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Pyle, namely: Harry Edwin, born March 15, 1903; Warren Jacob and Loren John, twins, were born April 9, 1906. Mr. Pyle tills one hundred and twenty acres of his father's land in Eden township. The parents of both Mr. and Mrs. Pyle emigrated here from Illinois and they have long been regarded as very valuable acquistions, for they have all played well their parts in the affairs of the county. Politically, Mr Pyle is a Republican. Like many of our modern farmers, he is has a motor car, which he and his family greatly enjoy. He takes a deep interest in local affairs and has been chosen road supervisor and school director, serving as president of the board for a number of years, filling these positions in a mannner that reflected much credit upon himself and to the entire satisfaction of all concerned. He is one of Marshall county's progressive young farmers and believes that one's life should be lived each day. He is conservative, yet broad and liberal enough to realize that true enjoyment comes from even exchange of values. He and his wife are of an optimistic, genial, hospitable temperament which has made them popular with the best citizens of the county.
