    1. Re: [PYLE] CASPER PYLE/PILE
    2. Dear Arden, My wife descends from this Pyle family in Pennsylvania. Here is the family group and some of my notes. I don't have as much information as I wish I had, and some of it is unproved, but this may give you an idea whether you want to explore anything further. Casper PILE, d. ca 1808 m. Catherine (Unknown) Their children: John H. PILE, b. 17 Aug 1775, Hagerstown, Washington, MD, d. 20 Aug 1845, Milford Twp., Somerset, PA, m. ca 1812 Cathorin DULL, b. ca 1774, d. 23 Oct 1860, Mildord Twp., Somerset, PA (This is our line.) George PILE, b. 12 Aug 1777 Henry PILE, b. ca 1774/1780, PA m. (Unknown) 4 children listed Abraham PILE, b. 19 Mar 1787 Jacob PILE, b. bef 1805 Catherine PILE, m. (KOONCE) Michael PILE, b. PA ======= The "Bluebook," Casper Pile Line, per "Ron Pyle" <piguy@goldrush.com> Pyles Blue Book. p. 1151. Land Deeds of Somerset County, Pennsylvania; Book 2, page 91: Casper Pile. January 18, 1790, of Milford Twp., in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and Harmon Husband....Casper agrees to pay 1 pound 20 shillings per acre....agreed to pay in gold or solver, or wheat or rye....at ready money market prices. This land joined land that Casper already owned.! Pyles Blue Book: Casper is in the 1790 census of Bedford Co., PA, with 3 males 16 and up, 5 males under 16 and 2 females. In the 1783 tax list of Bedord co., PA, he had 100 acres, 1 horse, 3 cattle, 6 sheep, and his tax was 4.9. His will was written 9-25-1808 (Somerset Co., PA, file #36) probated Oct 1808, not completed until 7/26/1811 when the inventory was registered. ---------- Notes of Patricia McKinna—A GENEALOGY OF THE PUTMANS. Catherine (Dull), b. 1774, apparently oldest of this family, d. Oct 23, 1860, md. John H. Pile (Pfeil, originally), b. near Hagerstown, Md., to Casper and Catherine Pfeil, on Aug. 17, 1775, d. 1845. He was the oldest son and lived in Milford Twp. on property adjoining the farm of his father-in-law. On Mar. 28, 1815, he sold property to Christian Ankeny. also on June 3, 1837, with his brother George Pile, he sold to John and Josiah Weimer, a tract on Laurel Hill Creek which came to them by Sheriff's sale, Sept. 5, 1832. He made his will on Jan. 25, 1845, by which the widow, Catherine, was to have the 12-acre tract on which he lived, adjoining the property of George Dull, John Bruner, and Widow (Elizabeth) Sipe. This was later sold to Samuel Saylor. Another tract of 10 acres adjoinging John Barkman, John Sweitzer, and Jonathan Sechler. The estate was to be divided equally among his children; George and Absalom Pile, sons, were executors. The will and the report of the executors mentions 10 heirs besides the widow. Names given were: John, Joseph, Henry, Jonathan, Jacob, Elias, Daniel, Absalom, and George. The name Samuel was included but for some reason it was crossed out. The will also mentions "the heirs of Peter and David, deceased." Family accounts include among the children the names of Delilah and Elizabeth, and does not include the names of Henry, Jacob, Peter or David. So the exact number and names of the family is uncertain. Keith A. Dull. Early Families of Somerset and Fayette Counties, Pennsylvania. pp. 15-16. ------------ I have transcribed a copy of Casper Pile's will and will send it if you would find it interesting. Are you related to this family? Best wishes, Jack Reynolds 16355 Prairie Bell Road Okmulgee OK 74447 <guano@aol.com>

    1. [PYLE] James and Conrad PILES of Orange Co NC; late 1700s
    2. Robert, Good to hear from you. I'm still plugging away on these lines, and see that you are, too. Have you made any headway in determining James PILES' father (even if it's just speculation); or in linking James PILES to Conrad(us) PILES of Orange County NC. To me, that one still seems like it could go either way, i.e., 1) they were brothers or cousins, or 2) they just happened to be in the same region in the same early era, late 1700s. I don't know that I've ever seen a James records that is linked with a Conrad record. I think it's pretty clear that Conrad(us) PILES descends from Vincent Godfrey PILES, but what about James?
