    1. [PSRoots] Mysterious cache of old photos found in Seattle

    3. The June 4th issue of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (p. B1) has an interesting article: "Nameless faces from out of the past: Mysterious cache of decades-old portraits found in Seattle church." The online version of the article is "Mysterious photos show nameless faces from out of the past" at http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/124992_photos04.html Bethel Christian Ministries (206-441-0444) has been at 2nd and Lenora for nearly 60 years and recently moved out of the 2033 Second Ave building, which is due for the wrecking ball. (I hope they save the beautiful facade). The building dates from the early 1900s and housed Seattle's first swimming pool. When the church was moving out, 6 crates of about 200 unidentified photos and many negatives were found in a crawl space. These are hand-tinted enlargements in good condition that date from about 1919-1926. The company that did the enlarging and colorizing was apparently the Universal Art Association or the Continental Art Company. It's going to take a lot of detective work (and luck) to identify the people in all those photos. --Ida Skarson McCormick, idamc@seanet.com, Seattle
