On the subject of Wallin, I have a Per Wallin, who was Swedish. I believe he was in the U.S. (Boston area) around 1890. I don't know that Per Wallin came west, but he might have. He was my grandfather's brother. Others in the family used the Hendrickson or Safgren surname. No connection with your Wallin/Wallings most likely.
