    3. Hi. Sending this to you and the Puget Sound List.... I checked my database on Skagit and didn't find any Blanchard people. I know they exist...but the database does not yet include census records. I then checked "Chechacos All" written and published by the Skagit County Historical Society. and found ...page 92 story about the Blanchard Logging Co.'s cook and joke played on him. ...page 22 "An important man in the surveys and construction of the telegraph line through Washington Territory in 1864 was John Fravel. He was pushing the work through Skagit County, still a part of Whatcom at the time when Calhoun, Sullivan, and others were building the first dikes and riaing the enormous crops of oats, barley, hay, and potatoes. The future possibilities of the country so impressed him that he returned here and in 1871 pre-empted a claim at a place whose post office was long known as Fravel. When much later the railroad came through and named its station Blanchard after the man who operated a logging company there, the inhabitants voted to change the name of the post office." ...page 179 (topic is schools) "One of the earliest on the Samish flats was at Blanchard started in the Cutler home in 1873 with seven pupils from the Stevens and Wood families, taught by the oldest Stevens girl..." ...page 186...division of school district...Blanchard is one of many. ...page 46 picture of exterior of Blanchard mill... No listing of people... ---------- > From: NW Hort Council <general@nwhort.org> > To: BOOKSTORELADY@prodigy.net > Subject: Re: research > Date: Monday, September 14, 1998 7:45 PM > > Darilee, > > Thank you for getting back to me.
