Good day to all, It seems that today, many can hide behind a keyboard and send all sorts of information, even if it isn't true. The most recent is the BIG FREEZE coming. It'll never happen while I'm alive, but I don't know about you 20 year olds. Maybe. If you could find a copy of the 10-03-98 Seattle P-I you could read the story by reporters Robert L. Jamieson & Darrell Glover. They interviewed several people, including Professor Cliff Mass, of the Atmospheric Sciences dept. at the University of Washington. Word is our coming winter will be worse than last winter because of La Nina but not the worst in 75 years. You can relax this winter. Must have been some salesman that had some 4X4's he wanted to sell us. Or was it snowplows? When the bad one comes, the Washington coast and Cascades will be colder causing the moisture to fall as snow there and other areas will get less because of that, even though they are also colder. The exception will be when the wind directions change like the one about six years ago. I left Seattle during cold dry weather, and went through Wyoming just after the weather dropped two inches there. The winds went down through Colorado & New Mexico, looping east through Texas, and then back north through Oklahoma, to Lincoln, Neb and Iowa. When the weather went through Texas it picked up moisture from the Gulf, dropping it as 14 inches of snow on Lincoln just as I got there. That is one I remember, because my cousin and I got stuck in it that night. Rumor number two: Y2K crash. It'll never happen. If you're worried about it, go out and buy a new PC like Bill Gates wants you to, with Win98 installed. He's the one that is responsible for it in the first place. Check it out. However, if you don't want to help Bill Gates, go buy a Mac, or even one of those old Apple computers. They never had the problem. And if you're using some PC software you don't want to give up, get a Mac. It can run both kinds of software and not have any problems with dates. I've tried it, but I don't need graphics for my work so I may wait awhile. I'm using a PC I bought in '94. However, the CMOS is '91, which I found out when I wanted to install a HD bigger than a 540 Gb. Had to modify to do that, but it's OK now, and I don't want Win95 or Win98. The only time the date's a problem is when you turn the PC on. If you do need the current date after 01-01-2000, just enter it when you start the PC, and then leave it on. I've tried it, and all of my software worked, though the one for solar events had problems. I can live with that. Bill Gates worked out a deal with IBM, back in 1980, and designed the PC as well as the software called MS-DOS to make it work. All that's needed is a few more lines of system code to straighten out the problem. But if you wnat to spend some money to be safe, go buy a newer PC with Win98 to help keep Bill Gates from going broke. John You wanna discuss it?
