Hi, folks -- I've solved the problem (in a manner of speaking) by locking EGROUPS.COM (aka MAKELIST.COM and FINDMAIL.COM) out of RootsWeb's mail server. You shouldn't see any more mail from them. Please don't continue to discuss the issue on the list -- it's just water under the bridge at this point.
