Tom Haensly, attorney representing the tribe and Ruth Moore and Carolynn Crawford, said his clients haven't decided yet whether they will appeal. Norma and other interested persons, The real problem with this judge's ruling is that he "could find no law in existance" and therefore he knows his ruling has just now set a new history of law for other judges to rule by. If his ruling is not appealed, the only recourse is to start becoming a loud and frequent voice heard by our elected officials to create new laws to protect cemeteries. Did he not take into consideration that the reason "no evidence of the cemetery was evident" was because the city had destroyed the cemetery appearance? Wasn't that one of the very reasons you sued in the first place? We have been getting announcements about the meeting schedules of Florida Cemetery Committees which was formed to protect abandon cemeteries, but no new about the work they have accomplished. It would be nice to know their progress, perhaps their model could be used for other states. My concern is that the rest of us have no financial backing and all the developers who want to destroy the cemeteries do. Most adults today have not experienced the spititual awakening that comes from visiting the grave of a Great-great-grandparent. Just this week we had a distant cousin and his wife visit us. While in the area they drove to a cemetery where his G-g-grandfather was buried and he came back a humble and reverant person from his experience. He said he had never had anything influence him so quickly and deeply. Perhaps we should start a drive to visit these old cemeteries and take a cousin with you. New converts could really help, especially with their new energy. JADyer
