    3. Just in time for SGS's move to across the street from the Pacific NW Branch of the US National Archives, the Saturday, May 12th, meeting of the Seattle Genealogical Society Computer Interest Group program will feature "The US Federal Census on CD ROM". NOTE CHANGE OF MEETING LOCATION!!! We will meet Saturday, May 12th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Broadview branch of the Seattle Public Library, located at 12755 Greenwood Avenue North (206-684-7519). It is situated on the southwest corner of Greenwood Ave. N. and N. 130th St., just a few blocks west of Aurora Ave. N. On the Number 5 bus line. Auto drivers please park on the street to leave the parking lot for library patrons. We will begin with a demonstration by Barb Raemer of a new SGS CD computer-lookup facility. Some census CD collections are name indexes only, but some sets include the index, plus actual images of the microfilm census sheets. Then Dave Ault will first demonstrate using an "index only" CD for 1870 Massachusetts from the SGS collection. Dave will also share his experiences using Barb's 1840 Pennsylvania "index and microfilm record" CD set. John Wise will show his successes with his 1850 Alabama and neighboring states "index and microfilm record" CD set. We will talk about the Federal census CDs available at SGS and commercially. For a list of census CDs available at SGS, see pages 148-9 of the SGS Spring 2000 Bulletin. At the beginning of he meeting we will elect our Interest Group chair and vice-chair for the coming year. Barbara Raemer has agreed to accept nomination for Vice-chair and I have agreed to run again for chair. Further nominations will be open. Please attend and make your choice known. As time permits we will discuss the upcoming Heritage Festival on July 7-8th at Marymoor Park, in Redmond, and call for volunteers to help demonstrate genealogy research on the Internet in the special SGS computer room. This is a great opportunity to share our expertise with others, spread the word about family research, and let them know how SGS and the Computer Interest Group can assist. The SGS Computer Interest Group is the first established computer genealogy group in the US (January 1981) and second in the world (one in Sweden was first).
