FYI: There is a new site for Carman Family genealogy and if you are interested, you may subscribe in the usual manner by Carman-Roots-L-request@rootsweb.com with the usual subject in the text to automate the subscription, & of course unsubscribe when you wish to unsubscribe. I subscribed to the D or digest version by inserting the D in place of the L or List version. The Carman Family dates from 1631, John Carman from England to the New England areas; MA, briefly CT., lots of Long Island, N.Y. (around Oyster Bay, Hempstead and various N.Y. locs.). They intermarried with so many Surnames that this could be a good site for many of you to really reach around your genealogy. I can include more surnames re this in the near future if anyone is interested. This was a very prolific genealogy in the early times, and very active, however they are somewhat undercover these days, so it is great to see some of them come out publically with their fine gen. FMI: (For my info.) - I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can tell me of some sites,on the computer, especially around Puget Sound for either Selling or Buying things. Sort of Swap or Swop & Shop. I have a number of items I wish to offer for Sale but don't want to put it on here. I wish not to discuss such items I wish to sell via e-mail personally rather than on PSR, for instance. Just contact me via my Juno addr. I have large from a '71 Volvo automobile to medium items such as furniture, to much smaller items of various interests that I need to clean out or swap for. Mainl;y clean out, LOL !!! I've heard of these sites, but need some mainly in the Puget Sound area. Thank you, Carroll of Snohomish. * * * 30 * * * _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Hi List. Just when I think I am sooooo perfect... I apologize for the double post. Darilee
Hazel thanks for the suggestion to write to the Skagi Co. Historical Societ and Museum at LaConner. I will do that. Maybe they can help me. Also about the Anacortes museum. Thanks for your reply. Ellen
Hi Ellen: It is Claquato Cemetery and you have to call the cemetery. I suggest you call the Margarets or write and ask them to call the cemetery for you. Sometimes it takes several tries. Ijust looked at my Kosmos book which went underwater near Morton in 1967 but no Prathers. My in-laws lived out there and I know I heard them mention Prathers. Also, Ellen, if your families lived outside town, Chehalis or Centralia, it seems it is harder to find records. There are a lot of little towns - communities -Onalaska, Cinnebar, Alpha, Adna, PeEll - and some taken over by the larger towns. Keep in touch and I'll watch for the name. That is all the information that I have. You might want to check with the Skagit County Historical Society and Museum; 501 s. 4th; LaConner, WA 98257. I also know that Anacortes has a museum but I cannot locate the address in the phone directory. You might try sending a query to Anacortes, WA 98221. Anacortes is not that big a city. I am sure that they would get it. There are no people with that spelling in the local phone directories. Hazel At 03:21 PM 8/30/98 EDT, you wrote: >Yes, this is the wife of Edwin Welever. Ellen, Norma, Cheryl Several of my family are buried in Claquato Cemetery, Chehalis, Lewis County, Washington I bet this is what you're looking for. Then Ellen and I should check to see if we're related - it really is a very tiny cemetery. Hi Ellen: I'm in Centralia-Prather sounds familiar to me from Morton-Glenoma area. Write or call the Lewis County Historical Museum at 599 NW Front Street, Chehalis WA 98532 - Phone: 748-0831. The two women who man the genealogical library there are both named Margaret - they have obits, land records, a few city-county directories and family histories. Lots of filed paper. If they have anything they need a stamped envelope to send it and like to have a couple bucks, they have very little budget. I have offered to get them on the net, they have computers but they havn't taken me up on it. Maybe this winter I'll try again. Good Luck! I am looking for my grandmother's long lost sister. Her name was Mary HINTON and I believe that she is the Mary HINTON listed in the 1907 Seattle City Directory as a domestic and living at 808 Seneca. She was born in California in 1877, and orphaned at an early age. Is anyone researching this line or know anything about her? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Diane! Here's the info on the cemetery: Claquato Cemetery Association 193 Chilvers Road Chehalis, WA 98532 360-748-7755 Location of office records: at cemetery office PO Box 1443 Chehalis, WA 98537 Misc Notes: Very old cemetery. Contains Claquato Cemetery, which may be oldest in the area and which is adjacent to an old Indian burial ground, and Sunset Memorial Gardens, which is relatively new. Burials in Claquato date back to 1856. Other names: Sunset Memorial Gardens. This data came from the book titled "Directory of Cemeteries and Funeral Homes in Washington State" published by Heritage Quest, Orting Washington copyright 1990 on page 183. Hope this helps! Yes, this is the wife of Edwin Welever. I have that information. I know that other brothers were in the area. I am trying to find his brothers families. Ellen
