    3. Well, someone tried to get to me. AND, succeeded. I received a rather cryptic message from a member saying she wanted to know the hours I work at the FHC. I told her. She responded with additional snide remarks and so I have just unsubscribed from PSROOTS-L. _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 1. WHAT A LIFE! INTERESTING OBIT:
    2. Carroll H Clark
    3. I would like to share with you the obit. I read in The Herald, Wed. 9/16/1998 Obits.QUOTE p. 4B: Ella Mae Emery Ella Mae Emery Husted McLean Emery, 91, of Edmonds, Washington, died September 9, 1998. Ella was born July 11, 1907 in Everett, Washington to Cora and Earl W. Husted, a prominant Everett attorney. She graduated from Everett High School with the class of 1924-1/2 (when I was born - CC.) and worked locally until the mid-1930's. She then went to New York City where she was a confidential secretary to the Honorable Joseph E. Davies, Ambassador to Russia for three years. During that time Fortune Magazine selected her as "The Typical American Girl." She also worked in Washington, D.C. Ella returned to the west coast and worked for Paramount Studios in Hollywood until 1942. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1945 with a degree in journalism. She returned to Hollywood to work with the William Morris Agency. While there she earned her private pilot's license in 1946. She moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1950 where she wrote for a TV station, hosted a radio celebrity interview show on Honolulu's KHON, and worked with William Lederer, authro of "The Ugly Amcerican." She was the production manager's assistant for several movies filmid in Hawaii including "The Enemy Below" and "South Pacific." The University of Washington recognized her work with the alumni association in Hawaii by awarding her its Distinguised Alumni Award. Paramount called her back in 1966 to work on "In Like Flint," (filmed in Jamaica). Ella's 1949 marriage to Lieutenant Commander Gregory McLean, a Navy Flyer, ended tragically nine months after they were married when he was killed in an aircraft crash. Ella married Lieutenant Colonel Duncan Emery, a decorated World War II veteran, in 1959 while they were both working in Hawaii. After Duncan's retirement from the army in 1963, they moved to Edmonds where Ella lived until 1994. Ella and Duncan had a long and happy marriage until Duncan's death in 1982. In addition to her parents, Ella was predeceased by her brother Remington Husted, her sister, Alice Husted Mony, and her uncle, Max Miller, local newpaperman and author of "I Cover the Waterfront." Ella is survived by her daughters, Virginia Mills and Marnie Treloar, and their families who reside in North Seattle; a Neice, Susan Emery of Falls Church, Virginia; and her sister-in-law, Doris Husted of Seattle. She was a long-time member of the Hatasu Temple No. 1, Daughters of the Nile. There will be no services at Ella's request. Memorials may be made in her name to the Everett Community College Foundation, 801 Wetmore Avenue, Everett, Washington 98201. Arrangements entrusted to Beck's Funeral Home, Edmond, Washington. END OF QUOTED OBIT. WOW, what a life-and a whole spectrum of experiences-and in the era in which she Lived - what a Legacy of memories for herself and her Families to share. This is not at all to dismiss in any way those who have passed on and left a very different story, but of equal value to the world and their loved ones to cherish. Each has his (sic.!) own experiences! 2. Carroll H Clark
    3. If anyone out there has the Subject surname among their gen. or has knowledge of this surname, such as a website, etc., I would like to you to contact me, as I am interested in this genealogy. I have some in my gen. mostly related to CT. late 1600s - thru- 1800s era. I would like to pursue that Line farther down the track. Some of them add the "s", others did not. I have some articles written about Squire & Squier surnames and I find them fascinating in history. My Grt Grt GF who signed Jason S. Clark - the S. was Squire after the Squire Family that he was related to and was highly thought of among the relatives. I have a bit of info on that family but its sparks my interest to know more and generally enlarge on them. My ref. to the Lathrop Fam., that of the Immigrant ancestor from Eng. who signed Rev. John Lothropp, I find that all of his kids upon coming to America dropped the final "p" off the surname, so that the Lothrop spelling prevailed, and the variant Lathrop developed. * * * _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 3. Hi. Sending this to you and the Puget Sound List.... I checked my database on Skagit and didn't find any Blanchard people. I know they exist...but the database does not yet include census records. I then checked "Chechacos All" written and published by the Skagit County Historical Society. and found ...page 92 story about the Blanchard Logging Co.'s cook and joke played on him. ...page 22 "An important man in the surveys and construction of the telegraph line through Washington Territory in 1864 was John Fravel. He was pushing the work through Skagit County, still a part of Whatcom at the time when Calhoun, Sullivan, and others were building the first dikes and riaing the enormous crops of oats, barley, hay, and potatoes. The future possibilities of the country so impressed him that he returned here and in 1871 pre-empted a claim at a place whose post office was long known as Fravel. When much later the railroad came through and named its station Blanchard after the man who operated a logging company there, the inhabitants voted to change the name of the post office." ...page 179 (topic is schools) "One of the earliest on the Samish flats was at Blanchard started in the Cutler home in 1873 with seven pupils from the Stevens and Wood families, taught by the oldest Stevens girl..." ...page 186...division of school district...Blanchard is one of many. ...page 46 picture of exterior of Blanchard mill... 1. Moving Parts of databases in FTM
    2. These directions were posted on a mailing list that I subscribe too and thought they might be of use to someone else. I had a large database that I needed to split up and it works great. Leaves the original in place and copies what you want. Credit goes to: Sue Sablic Indiana Sablics@aol.com Sue states, Here's what I do... Open a new FTM family file, naming it with the family line you wish to transfer. At "File" - click on "Open Family File", then click one time only - just to highlight - the family file you wish to transfer from. At the bottorm of the screen there will be a button that says "Append File" - click on that button. (Note: there will be a caution screen pop up, but if you are transferring to a empty database there shouldn't be any concern, so just close it). A screen listing the persons in your current database will come up, the list will be on your left hand side. From this screen click on the very oldest ancestor of the family line you wish to transfer. Then click on the ancestors/descendants. A list of all the persons which will be transferred will appear in a list on your right hand side. It will include the oldest ancestor, his/her spouse their children, their spouses and on and on right through all descendants. When you are ready, click "OK" - and the whole file of that family line (and only that line) will be sent to your new database. A merge message will pop up, but since you will be transferring to an empty database you can simply do the "Amend only". All of the sources, notes, etc. should be transferred also.

    1. Sumner historical/biographical information
    2. George Lowe
    3. Hi, I sent this information to Cindi Howells who suggested I pass it on to this mailing list. Several years ago I began collecting information on all residents of Sumner and the immediate area who lived here as of 1910 or prior to that year. I believe I picked 1910 because I had obtained a city directory for that year which gave me a base. I then researched all local publications from 1889 to about 1975 . I had, by then, scrap booked photocopies of every article and obituary of any historical significance either subjectively or alphabetically if on an individual or family. I have approximately 2000 pages in these scrap books. In addition to this I also collected a smaller history of the Sumner Fire Department and one on the Valley Daffodil Festival with respect to Sumner from the celebration's inception in 1926 at Mrs. Charles Orton's tea party on. No.......it didn't start in Tacoma. Sorry. I have indexed the Sumner historical / biographical (genealogical?) collection both subjectively and by the names of the people who resided here. I am currently seeking an avenue to recopy this material since it is scrap booked with rubber cement and takes up a greater bulk than necessary. Upon completion I intend to provide a full copy to the Sumner Public Library, the Heritage Quest Library in Sumner and, perhaps, the Sumner Historical Society. If anyone in this e-mail group is interested in information that may be in this material you may contact me at: gblowe@foxinternet.net I will try to provide you with as much information as I can on your subject or name. Thanks and I hope I can be of assistance to someone. George Lowe gblowe@foxinternet.net

    1. I MADE A BOO-BOO:
    2. Carroll H Clark
    3. In my disseratation on the Lathrop Fam. in the body of it I stated that Benedict Arnold was the son-in-law of the famous Rev. Jonathan Edwards. I should have said that Aaron Burr was the son-in-law of the Great Awakening expounder. I am related there fore to Aaron Burr, via the Burr and also the Edwards surnames. But apparently I am also related to Benedict Arnold via the Lathrop Fam as that is how I happen to make my BooBoo in getting those names mixed up. So, tell me about your skeletons in your closets, now. Anyway, as I was waiting for my wife to get her tests from her Dr. all of a sudden it popped in my mind that I had written Benedict Arnold, instead of Aaron Burr so I knew I'd better clarify that before some of you sharp historians catch me up on my error. Well, whomever, whatever - Burr, Arnold - we are proud of our Famous Ancestors Series. That's what I get for trying to type off the top of my head - the top ain't on straight! That's the REST OF THE STORY!
