Hi... i rec'd this from another list I am on and think it may prove helpful for some one out there...or at least you'll have fun trying to i.d. people. Diane in Shoreline dhettrick@earthlink.net -----Original message ---------- Can you identify these people? The Library of Congress has a collection of photos taken during the depression and WWII. They are seeking help. "Select State and Country Index to see arrangement by location. Unfortunately, most of the photos containing individuals do not identify them by name. There are still a fair number of people around who would recognize pictures of individuals from the depression and WWII era. Can you identify any of them in the locations which are most familiar to you? Or can you find friends or family of this generation that can identify them? If you do make a find, send a message to lcweb@loc.gov. " http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/fsaquery.html

This is indeed marvelous news! I had just been checking out the cost of them and trying to figure out what kind of fundraising effort we could do in order to get one sooner than later. >From the Washington death index I have located two deaths that pose possibility in my search. However, I don't need certified death certificates, nor am I certain that either are the correct person. Is there a way to determine what information is on the death certificate before I purchase a copy? I'm looking for a clue on the death certificate - for instance his birth state, (which I have) - to check to see if the deceased is the same man I'm looking for. How does one go about securing a Revolutionary War record from Vermont? I have the person, the date of the battle. Evelyn at JOHuffER@aol.com. Thanks.
I have gone to Elma and gotten copies of death certificates. Haven't been there lately. They don't have all counties, all years, but they have most. Is there anyone on the list that is in Gray's Harbor that could go to Elma for her? Evelyn
Hi, I am wondering where you are located ? I am also wondering what years of death you are inquiring about. The only way I know of how to do what you are asking for is the Elma Family History Center has a roll of film that has ACTUAL death certificates < You almost must have the death certificate number from the WA state death index, date of death, name, etc. > for a certain number of years. I do not live near Elma, but someone else may be able to help you. Hope this helps, at least a little :-) Ginger

Hello all. Hoping to find some long lost cousins out there. Searching for descendents of James and Cyrus HOLMES, who both lived in WA from about 1904 until thier deaths. (see dates below) General info- Cyrus Holmes and his wife Emma NICHOLS moved out to WA about 1904 and had lumber mill in the Everson area. I know of only one child, Avis, and do not know if they had any other children. Cyrus was living in South Bend by 1923, when his brother James died. No other info on Cyrus and Emma. James Holmes and his wife Lena lived in the Blaine area. They had 4 known children- Erick Holmes, Mrs Harry Nielson, Lee Holmes and Florence Holmes. Names obtained from James' 1923 obit. Lee Holmes recieved his 8th grade diploma in 1921 in Blaine. Have found some references of (who I believe is) Erick Holmes in a 1948 diary, living near Concrete with a Cecille and Jo. (wife and son perhaps?) James and Cyrus were followed to WA by a sister, their father, and a brother. Myrtle Holmes and husband Charles THOMAS (my grandparents) came to Lynden about 1910, later joined by father Alex Holmes. Guy Holmes lived for about 25 years in Easton PA before moving to Lynden about 1940. Here is Alex and all his children. Alex HOLMES was born Sep 8, 1835 in Washburn, ME, died Jul 1, 1921 in Blaine, WA. He married (1) Margery ELLIOTT. He married (2) Jane NICHOLS (sister of Cyrus's wife Emma) daughter of Steven NICHOLS and Lois RAFFORD. Children of Alex HOLMES and Margery ELLIOTT are: James W. b. Jun 10, 1860, Washburn, ME; d. 1923, S.Bend, WA; Cyrus E. b. Jul 1, 1863, ME; d. May 10, 1933, WA; Florence, b. Abt. 1874. Margaret b. Abt. 1876. Children of Alex HOLMES and Jane NICHOLS are: Guy, b. May 14, 1885, Washburn, ME; d. May 7, 1952, Bellingham, WA; Myrtle Estelle, b. Apr 22, 1888, Washburn, ME; d. Mar 2, 1956, Bellingham, WA; Elliott b. Abt. 1880; Jenny b. Abt. 1880; Ruth b. Abt. 1880; Lewis A. b. Abt. 1880; If anyone out there sees a connection with these names, I would love to hear from you. Hello all - I just arrived in Dallas and I am testing my laptop on the projector at the theater here. I just read some of the e-mail posted by June and I have made a decision. I have removed June from the PSRoots list and I have put her e-mail addres on the reject list. This means that she will not be able to post to our list any longer. I regret having to take such action and I am very unhappy that I was put in this position. I wish that my first note, as the official list owner for this mailing list, would have sufficed. I had asked that we discontinue the conversation. From the few messages I received at this address today after I subscribed, it appears that isn't the case. I haven't seen all the messages and won't see them until I get home to my regular computer and e-mail address. I'm hoping that they won't scare me too much once I read them. I apologize to those of you who were offended and had problems in trying to communicate your feelings to the participants in this conversation. Please try to ignore the past conversation and let's all move on with the business at hand - our genealogical research online. Thanks for your patience and understanding, Cyndi P.S. Why is it that things like this happen when I go out of town? Hopefully everything else will go smoothly from this point on.

How can I help but tell of the glorious liberty purchased for me by our forefathers whose only joy was to give glory to God. I suppose you ditch your Christian forefathers as fanatics, but I promise they were preached to and embraced by the circuit riders who gave them their blessings of hope and prosperity. Shame on you for deleting the Name of the Lord, for He is the Only One that gives liberty. I suppose your new-age "sharing" means opinions, but "forcing religious rhetoric" is declaring the Word of God as true. You will see whether it is religious rhetoric. In eternity our ancestors will praise me, but you will be forgotten because you are like those that hated Lorenzo Dow. Perhaps you have some relatives named after him. He was a very famous Methodist circuit rider. When he got the kind of treatment you have given to this American in Jacksboro, Georgia, he cursed the town. One man, a Mr. Goodall, treated him with respect. The town was gone after a year and only Mr. Goodall's house was spared. There is a historical marker near where this wicked town formerly WAS. I do hope we have some Mr. Goodall's listening. For God is the Same, Yesterday, and Forever. You and your friends will no longer be able to leave the Lord out of our American history. It is pouring forth like sweet water for a dying multitude who are looking for the Providences and Strength which George Washington and James Madison sang about in Isaac Watts Divine & Moral Songs, one of their hymn books. You are so high and mighty, I suppose you know what songs they sung. This also is part of my geneaological research, as well as the patriotic numbers that gave them the impetus to wipe up the floor with tories. American history is replete with the glory of God; my house runs over with it, from the 1822 History of the United States by Rev. Charles Goodrich (the historian of Massachusetts) who couldn't tell lies in history books because he knew liars went to hell when they died to the 1620 account called Pilgrims Free Themselves from Communism: Establish Free Enterprise, recorded by the great and good Governor Wm. Bradford. You are granted some grace because of your ignorance of our history, and I, too, was once so ignorant being brought up in public schools, yet I knew something as great as the United States couldn't come about by itself and when I heard of its origin and the prayers of our God-fearing ancestors, I would have made a special room for one like myself to come and tell me all about it, instead of "deleting them from the list." They would have been fed at my table and I would have kissed their feet for saving my soul from humanistic interpretations and evolution's stupid explanations. Leave the list if you like, but it will cost you more than you can calculate now. Better think it over. I daresay this list is not so filled with infidels as you would like to think. As a matter of fact, American genealogy is bound to run you head-on with the Saviour perpetually. To deny it is blindness and stubbornness. One last comment. As for shoving things down one's throat, when the public schools and their Freud-Darwin-Marx theories pay their own and do not demand I pay for them, when the universities get their hand out of the grant machine that also robs taxpayers to shove socialism's religious tenets down our throats, when social security is made voluntary and I see all that volunteer to do get a full rebate with interest at the rate the IRS would charge you, and when all the cowards who move their plants oversees to avoid conflict with the IRS and their tax-exempt shelters are shut down while they jail tax protestors for the same thing our ancestors fought against, a wicked and corrupt religion of atheistic Communism, then we'll talk about freedom from religion. It usually happens that the free-thinkers and infidels always have some inroads to public money and certainly are not for everyone controlling their life, their charity, and their property.
