Their names? I have an extensive Puget Sound ship/ferry library and will check indexes.
Hi Carroll - I'm afraid I have to agree with the two people who posted objections tonight regarding your most recent note on PSRoots. I appreciate your enthusiasm and your willingness to share with everyone, but the list does need to be limited to genealogical-related topics for the Puget Sound area. Please be sure that posts in the future will be of interest to our 250+ friends on the list that all share the same interest in genealogy for our region of the world. Thanks for your help in making our list great, Cyndi At 07:44 AM 1/29/99 -0800, you wrote: >Truthfulness >Accountability >Communications >Trust > >That was the Focal Point for the group of concerned citizens that met >Tues. I second the opinion. What did any of this have to do with genealogy? I only scanned it but if there was two ounces of appropriate content it wasn't apparent to me. Please limit this site to the subject at hand. Hello all, As many of you know, the Snohomish Cemetery trial sparked an interest for me in Washington state's old or abandoned cemeteries quite a while back. It affected me so much so that I gathered support from some concerned citizens and formed the Kitsap County Cemetery Association to care for old or abandoned cemeteries in Kitsap County. That group grew to become the Washington State Cemetery Association which has made remarkable strides over the last year. We want to protect these old cemeteries as they are a vast resource for genealogists and they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Our main goal was to introduce new legislation which would protect these old cemeteries. Over the last year, I and several others have worked hard at understanding cemetery laws and watched the Snohomish Cemetery trial to learn all we could. We also started putting together a listing of cemeteries in Washington state (it can be found at the web site below) as we felt that those who do transcriptions might like to know all of the cemeteries available to transcribe. We found that there are as many forgotten cemeteries as there are active cemeteries. A week ago on my bi-weekly trip to Olympia, I stopped in my legislator's office to ask a few questions about legislation and after speaking with her aid, was hustled into a meeting just today which went very well. In the meeting was an aid who will actually write the legislation and he said it would be done tomorrow. The calendar for this bill is very quick. Everything must be done by March 6. THAT INCLUDES THE PUBLIC HEARING. And this is where all of you come in. I'm getting the word out now that sometime in February there will be a public hearing in Olympia on the new legislation. This bill will need people to call in to their local legislators to voice their support, and especially it will need people to come to the hearing to show their support. The more people there, the better it will go. If you would like specific information on the bill, please send me an email with your name and email address and a note that you would like the information, and as it comes in, I'll forward it to each of you. Anyone wishing to forward this message to another list, or to other individuals, please feel free to do so. I am contacting senior citizens groups and historical socieities as well as genealogical societies. -------------- Andrea D. I am sorry, but I am getting more than a little upset that this genealogy mailing list is being used for political propoganda. I hope that something will be done about people using this list to post political meetings, and then following up with the minutes or opinions of the meetings! If this person is so into the politics of his/her city, then she/he needs to start a political list and leave this one to the researching of our Pacific Northwest families. Beth Fladaker

Hi, TacomaPierce County Genealogyal Society (TPCGS) has been able to locate the elusive Otto DRUMM for me. I knew that he came to Tacoma after emigrating from Germany. At the time of his death in Tacoma, his son, Otto DRUMM, and two daughters, Mrs. Ella REINHARDT, and Mrs. August JONAS and six grandchildren are listed in the orbit in 1940. His son, Otto DRUMM jr., was married to Marie S. LEBLANC. They had two daughters, Mrs. Margaret LARSON of Des Moines and Mrs. Louise Ferguson of Puyallup surviving after their deaths in 1979 and 1975. I am hoping that somebody may have a connection to these daughters and/or grand-daughters. Brigitte

Antoinette, For just the newspaper column, send an SASE to Puget Sound Genealogical Society 1026 Sidney Ave, #110 Port Orchard, WA 98366 They should be able to have one of their researchers come up with this list for you. They may be charging for research now. Wendy, have you changed your E-mail address since you subscribed to PSRoots? The computer at <PSRoots-L@request. rootsweb.com> knows you by your address. So when you request "unsubscribe" it looks for your address and if it is not the same as when you subscribed then it says "Your name was not on the list." If this is the case then the only way I know to unsubscribe is to contact Cindy and she will take care of the problem. Hello Researchers, My name is Judi Williams. I've been researching my African-American 'Rankin' line for the past 5 years. I've run into many brick walls and have managed to knock some of them down. I joined this list because I am currently researching/searching relatives who lived in Tacoma-Pierce. My Grand-Uncle's name was Perry Eugene Rankin b. May 29, 1910 and died there in Tacoma in October of 1966. His Wife's name was Beula Rankin who was born in New Jersey on Jan. 14, 1913 and died in Tacoma in June of 1975. I was able to locate Perry Rankin's obituary from the Library there in Tacoma however I, so far, have not located Beulah's obituary. Perry and Beulah adopted three children whose names are Michael, Zontia (pronounced Zon-tee-ah) and another son whose name I don't know. I, myself have never met my Grand-Uncle and his family and have never been to the west coast at all. Perry's sister is now age 95 and is the last person from the east coast, as far as I know, who had contact with the entire family there since Beulah died in 1975. My quest now is to locate Perry and Beulah's children who should be in their mid to late 40's. I believe they may have been cared for by someone in Beulah's family however I am only speculating. I do know that Perry owned two houses in Tacoma when he died and that they were sold after his death. If you have any information regarding possible whereabout of Perry and Beulah's children or can point me in a direction, I would truly and sincerely appreciate it and possibly, I may be able to knock down another brick wall and finally meet my cousins. If more information is required, just ask me and I'll be happy to share what I have. Thank you,

One of the things I stress is think in terms of Family History, not the genealogy we usually call it. And, history covers a lot of territory. There is a history of settlement on the land in this country as well as the history of the people and the records they left behind. Even a history of the record keepers. That is the part that bothers me, all that history to read. Thank goodness for microfilm, regional archives and e-mail. Check at the regional archives nearest you. They should be able to let you know where the records you want are held and whether they are on microfilm. Perhaps you can even get the microfilm copy sent to a nearby library. I know that a year ago the Kansas City and Atlanta regional web sites had a detailed listing of their holdings. Perhaps by now some of the others have also gotten detailed listings. They all have e-mail contacts. As for your family in Michigan, don't forget that some counties have had histories published about their early settlers. More history to read. I'm very new at sending messages and replying to messages. Please forgive me if this not correct. I would very much like to thank Joyce Wans and John Sloniker for their very informative answers to my query on Federal Land Records. I also believe in the "hands on" approach too in finding answers in the archives. I wish I could travel to all the courthouses and archival facilities but I have way too many ancestors coming from all parts of the country and a very limited budget. I think I had died and gone to heaven if I got the treasure trove that Joyce got on her visit to the Federal Archives. I guess I still have a lot to learn on land records. For one thing I had thought since Cornelius MILLER had taken his family to Michigan from New York in the early 1830s that he was looking for something better than he had in New York, meaning that he was broke. If I am correct in my research, his mother was a widow during his youth and living very precariously (a relative sold her property back to her for $1 after she had originally lost it). So, I did not think he had any money and would have gone to Michigan to get a start. But, he had $100 to buy 80 acres! So, I guess I didn't know the difference between homesteading and purchasing the land. Anyway, I appreciate all the help I receive. Thanks, Doris
Don't write library, newspaper or genealogical society. I'll go look in garage (when the rain lets up.)
Was wondering if anyone on the list might live in/or subscribe to the newspaper carrying marriage lists from Port Orchard? My granddaughter had to apply over there as her "intended" stationed at Bangor could not get time off to come to Tacoma to apply for the license. I really would like a copy of the page of the paper showing this record and will reimburse costs. The persons involved are Malinda Antoinette Helm (of Tacoma) and Christopher Todd (stationed at Bangor but of Oleans, IN). They applied Thursday January 21st at the Port Orchard courthouse/city hall. E-mail me for my address including costs, etc., if you are willing or able to do this for me. Thank you. Antoinette waughtel@oz.net http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/savannah/252/homepage.htm
To unsubscribe: Send an e-email message to: PSRoots-L-request@rootsweb.com In the body include only one word: Unsubscribe Hope this helps... Michelle P.S. Just a helpful hint, when subscribing to a mailing list I print out the instructions they send each time you sign up and keep it in a file called "Mailing Lists." This way I have the instructions for each list (and hope they work.. lol) This file is kept in the front of my genealogy files. There is no way I could remember all the commands, I am on to many lists.. LOL
