Hi, Is there anyone who might be able to do an obituary look-up for me? My g-gm Getta Kenseth (Kjenseth) died in Seattle (lived in Ballard area) on the 4th of July 1955. I am actually hoping to learn the whereabouts of her daughter Mary (Marie) Kenseth WOOD .... or Mrs. Tom WOOD. Mary and her husband Thomas F. WOOD and son Harry Gordon WOOD moved to Canada, but I don't know where in Canada. Mary sometimes came back to visit, but I suspect she moved to Canada in the late 1920's or sometime in the 1930's. I know she visited Seattle in the 40's (as I have a picture of her with me and my g-gm) and maybe again in the 50's, but I don't know much else about her. I believe that Mary and her husband Thomas Wood never lived in Seattle. I think they went from Snohomish County to Canada which is where Thomas F. Wood was born. If there is nothing in Getta (Mrs Louis) Kenseth's obituary about her daughter Mary then possibly there would be something in one of her siblings obituaries. Ellen Kenseth ANDERSON died 12 Mar 1956 in Seattle Einar Kenseth (Kjenseth) died 21 Aug 1961 in Seattle John L. Kenseth (Kjenseth) died ?? July 1947...I believe in Seattle Gudrun Laura Kenseth LIMING died 5 July 1975 in Seattle Signe Kenseth PRONG died 30 June 1971 in Seattle I've been trying to find Aunt Mary for a while now and just thought of the obituary angle. Our family weren't the 'long obituary type' so there may not be much, but it would sure help if it narrows the search down to a province. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks, Bonnie Menzer Barnes Perth, Western Australia
Hello Carroll, Your ANDERSON line doesn't by any chance have a Benjamin (Bennie) Milo ANDERSON in it, does it? I've been told he was born in 1886 in Blair, Wisconsin. He settled in Snohomish County and married Elin (Ellen) KENSETH/ Kjenseth who immigrated to the U.S. in 1903 from Biri, Norway. The Kjenseth family relocated from Wisconsin to Snohomish County by sometime in 1905. My information is that Benjamin M. Anderson was born 12 Oct 1886 and died in Seattle 1967. Most of the men related to the Kenseth/ Kjenseth family worked in the saw mills around Granite Falls, Everett, Marysville, etc. I know this is a remote chance, but .....no harm in asking. <G> Thanks, Bonnie Menzer Barnes Perth, Western Australia From: Carroll Clark <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2001 1:56 AM Subject: ANDERSON FAM. -GEN. Hello, I have a family line that lived in the Seattle area about 1905. I am looking for any descendants of this family, or if someone could help with some marriages for the daughters. This would give me the married name and I might find some descendants of these families if I had a last name. This is my grandmothers family, she was Rose Margaret Mortenson and she married Albert Edward Acteson in 1906. Her family was: James Thomas Mortenson/Mortensen (She used "son" but I found James used "sen") he was Nov 29, 1847 in Ordrup, Denmark, he came to the USA in 1871, his wife Marie Peterson was born Apr 15, 1855 in Denmark and came to the USA in 1872, her father was Peter Peterson. They had these children: Pauline b Sept 1878 in MI, she married Christian Halager and in the 1920 census in Seattle they 3 daughters, Eleanor b abt 1911, Mabel b abt 1913 & Margrette b abt 1915 James Thomas Jr. b Jun 10, 1880 in Ishpeming, MI, m Anne Marie Hansin, they had 2 daughters, (I made a connection with this family). Then the family moved to Racine, WI and had the rest of their children: Christine Johanna b Jan 28, 1883 never married Rose Margaret b Aug 10, 1886 (my grandmother) Andrew E b Oct 26, 1889 m Eleanor Rinman in the 1920 census they were living with Eleanor's father and had one daughter Muriel D b abt 1916 George b May 29, 1892 married had no children Edward b May 2, 1897 (I have no information on him) There was an Annie Mortensen m Iverson listed in the obituary of her brother James, nothing else is known about her. Any help on making a connection to a descendant of this family, or the marriage records for the known daughters would be appreciated. If there is a web site I can find this information out, would be helpful as well. Thanks Karen
Hello, This is the seminal article on German naming patterns. I have been finding this and losing it for years - so I'm posting it here so I can find it the next time! http://www.kerchner.com/germname.htm Below is a section of the article - the reason I find this so fascinating is that it appears that my Scotch-Irish family in Pennsylvania followed the German naming pattern - no, I don't understand why, but if I works out I'll have the surnames of 2 missing grannies. Diane Hettrick [email protected] 4. It was a common practice in some German families to name the first born son after the child's paternal grandfather and the second born son after the maternal grandfather. Here are several more detailed naming patterns practiced by some families. Pattern A 1st son after the father's father 2nd son after the mother's father 3rd son after the father 4th son after the father's father's father 5th son after the mother's father's father 6th son after the father's mother's father 7th son after the mother's mother's father 1st daughter after the mother's mother 2nd daughter after the father's mother 3rd daughter after the mother 4th daughter after the father's father's mother 5th daughter after the mother's father's mother 6th daughter after the father's mother's mother 7th daughter after the mother's mother's mother
This Anderson Line has a prolific ancestry relating to the ancient Tuttle Line of which I am a part. This Anderson family divides into 2 branches, MATT ANDERSON (Sakaria Mathis Aarness), and MINA (HANSEN) ANDERSON, both of whom emigrated to the U.S., married & settled in the State of WA. Matt's brother, Abraham (Abe) Anderson migrated & settled in MARYVILLE, WASHINGTON, all from Norway. My info which refers to the Forks Forum newspaper article includes the following info: Matt Anderson's burial ceremony was held at the Forks Congregational Church. Rev. Hugh Cantelon of Port Angeles performed the service; burial followed at the Forks cemetery under the direction of Forks Mortuary. (For anyone concerned with this possible tie, details of the service, who participated in it is given - available for a possible tie) Obit Infor: Matt Anderson b. in Lyngdal, Norway Nov. 7, 1887- he passed away Aug 21st in a local hospital (year not given, but 1951 as he lived 64 yrs. Matt Anderson came to the U.S. from Norway at the age of 16, settling at Marysville, WA. where he worked on a farm several yrs, and later worked in the logging industry for Stimson Logging Co., then located near Marysville. On Aug 23, 1913 (recall he was b. 1887!) he married Mina Hanson which lasted nearly 39 yrs. They had 3 dau. & a son. 1917 the Andersons moved to Sekiu where Anderson was employed by the Bloedel-Donovan Logging Co., as a brakeman. He continued his with the same company moving to Beaver in 1925. 1928 the Anderson built their home at Forks where they resided until his death. His work spanned 20 yrs. as brakemen. A reward for his service to Bloedel-Donovan he was rewarded with a gift from the Company for his service, 20 acres of land near the Calawah River. When Bloedel sold to Raynonier Incorporated, Matt Anderson continued with the company as before until his health began to fail. At this point in time, Anderson changed poritions with the Company and operated a loading donkey. He was a member of Forks IOOF Lodge, West End Sportsmen's Club, CIO Woodworkers Union; baptized in the Lutheran Church; a fisherman, hunter. Surviving relatives beside his wife Mina, 3 dau. Mrs. Edna Tuttle of Waldport, Pregon, Mrs. Minnie Eversman of LaPush and Miss Eleanor Anderson of Seattle; one son, Arthur G. Anderson of Foprks; one bro and three sisters in Norway & 5 grand-children in Forks and Waldport. - - - 30 - - - I discovered this Info while looking through my Tuttle info which I acquired from a cousin, Brian Lewellyn Young, who passed away at the age of 80, a master genealogist. The info is from Genealogically Record of Gerald L. Tuttle A Descendant of William and Elizabeth Tuttle, Prepared by Mr. Gerald L. Tuttle October 28, 1991. Since my ancestral great grandmother Hannah Tuttle, a grand daughter of William & Eliz. Tuttle. Hannah Tuttle married Samuel Clark, my direct Line. Since I stumbled upon this bit of fairly Local tie to the Tuttle side of my Clark Fam, I decided to post this just to see what could come of it. I tried to subscribe to WACLALLAM List but the Post Office tells me there is none, so perhaps someone among those who read PSRoots or WASNOHOM might click among the Andersons out there. Andersons, like Clarks and Smiths are like needles in haystacks but I have found a lot of needles among those haystacks by playing Clues a bit. And what's kind of interesting there's some history behind the surname(s) which adds to the Fun. (Do U remember when you were taught that starting a sentence with "And" is a No!No!- I do ! ) Carroll in Snohomish (who should proofread his stuff, but obviously hasn't ) [email protected] &

I do not know if it is the same Richard "Dick" Bennett, but I went to school with a guy by that name. This was in Chewelah WA and he was perhaps born about 1931-33, just a guess. I have lost touch with him. There is a Frank Bennett listed there yet, who might know. 509-935-8396 At 07:51 AM 11/20/2001 -0800, you wrote: >Hi, >I am trying to search out my family history...The only name I have is >Richard "Dick" Bennett possibly born in Seattle, Wa in the 1930's. I am looking for SKS who can locate an article about a murder. Arthur B. Luntsford, a policeman in Seattle, was killed in the line of duty on or about January 20, 1923. I would appreciate any articles related to this murder. Thank you, Wanda

Daniel Henry HEBNER, died 4 February 1946 in Seattle, Washington I live in Michigan and do not have access to Washington newspapers. I would be glad to compensate for a photocopy, or a transcription in an email would be fine. Thanks........Diana M. Hebner [email protected]

With the kind encouragement of an experienced researcher, I finally made it to the Seattle Public Library to do some research. In a 4 volume set of deed abstracts from Maryland I found this entry: 29 Apr 1726, Archibald and Jane Edmonston, carpenter, of Prince Georges County, Maryland, to Daniel Scott, of Baltimore County, Maryland, 11,000 pounds of tobacco, 400 acres..part of 1,000 acres...Winters Run...patented by Col. Neniand Beale, father of said Jane Edmonston. There's my proof of Jane's parentage! Here's an even better one: 1718 Archibald and Jane Edmonston, carpenter, of Prince Georges County, Maryland to Jacob Bull of Baltimore County, Maryland 6,000 pounds of tobacco, 199 acres..head of Bush River. This one really tickles me, because Archibald and Jane (BEALE) EDMONSTON are my direct ancestors - and Jacob BULL is my husband's direct ancestor! Diane Hettrick [email protected]

Bernice Dale was born in the early 1920s in Tacoma to Arthur Dale and his wife Winifred Cobb. At the time of his death in 1955, Arthur lived at 609 No. Cedar Street, Tacoma. He was a gasoline dealer. After Arthur's death, his widow, Winifred married William Billingsley. I don't know if Bernice Dale ever married. I'm trying to trace her or her descendants in the hopes of find family photos. Is she familiar to any list member? Eileen Herkes, NY
