Lee and others, My Grinnell family line starts to my knowledge in WI>MN>then WA. Elmo Grinnell married George G. Griffin. The census her daughter Marie in on says her mother (that would be Elmo) was born in WI. Marie was born in 1888 MN and her father George G. Griffin was a dentist in Seattle as early as 1889. I think he traveled here with the Grinnells as he was born in PA and is on the 1880 census living with his parents. I only know that these Grinnells may also have had relatives living in Spokane as well. Have been searching some census records and city directories to find some hints but not enough to really connect it all yet. Elmo may have died in childbirth after a third daughter. I believe one daughter besides Marie is named Carrie. The name Elmo sounds strange for a woman but it is very clearly written on Maries marriage license. By that time her mother was deceased but I am not ruling out the possibility that it may be spelled differently on other records. Thanks for the help and hope that this is of a little more help if your family Lee knows some King co. Grinnells. I am with out a computer till this weekend and have used a friends Juno account to view my own today. It may be a while till I am fully back on line. So I will check every so often from here. Thanks All, Kathie

There was a GRINNELL who took wedding pictures for me in 1963 in Seattle, King Co WA. I believe his name was Mark. I can ask my mother-in-law as they were friends of the family. Can you give me more to go on? Cindy: David W. Hope and Miss L. J. Eckstein were married 24 Sep 1892 Ref: Volume 2, page 477 and return #290 in Pierce County, WA. Good luck Maxine Alexander
Maxine Thank you so much. I really do appreciate this. Is this an index that you got this information from? I would like to get more details about David Hope. I believe that he is my David, but I need to find out from the marriage registration if it is possible who his parents were, and where in Canada he was born to be sure. Can you advise me how I would go about this. Although I have quite a lot of experience searching for records in Ontario, I know nothing about searching in the US. Is there somewhere I can write to get this inforamtion? Any help greatly appreciated. I am Kathie Broderson and have been reading messages for a few weeks. This list looks very useful and I hope to be of help to others myself in some way. I am currently on an exciting search of my maternal grandmothers lines, Larson, Griffin and Grinnell. My focus is on the Griffin and Grinnell lines in 1888 right in our own Seattle WA. Before that the Griffin lines came from PA and then on to MN. From what I know the Grinnell line may have come from WI then on to MN and met up with the Griffin line. One most confusing research point right now is how to get death information on someone who died in King Co. between 1889 to may be 1905. That is my window of time to look for George G. Griffins wife Elmo Griffin ( maiden name Grinnell) I have gained much information on George these last two weeks and know that he is buried somewhere in the Seattle area also as his body was sent there from where he died in Mason county. If anyone is researching these lines I'd love to hear from you or if you have some hints on how to proceed with finding George and Elmo's resting place, please shed some light. Thanks, Kathie Broderson

Hi I was wondering if it would be possible for someone who has access to the Tacoma newspaper to look up an obituary for a David Hope died Tacoma, Washington on June 7, 1940. I was also wondering if someone may be able to give me some advice on how I would go about finding a marriage record for a David Hope & Leontine Eckstein in Washington (probably Tacoma) about 1893 All help greatly appreciated. Meredith, My mother worked with Ray Heffelfinger. He was vice-president of National Bank of Washington which used to be Pacific National Bank of Washington and then it was First Interstate Bank and is now Wells Fargo. They were working there when Kennedy was shot. She left there in about 1964 and doesn't know how long he worked there after she was gone. She can still remember what he looked like and said he was a very nice man. He was tall, average build, dark hair, wore glasses. I would assume that Ray Heffelfinger is probably related to your family. Have you heard of him? My name is Meredith Mills I live in Tacoma and have many ancestors from this area. I would like to tell you about the family line I am having the most trouble with. I have been working on this for sometime now and have not gotten very far. Charles B. Heffelfinger b. Richland Co., OH. Sept. 20, 1883 is my gr grandfather he is listed in the 1908 Tacoma Directory living at 2720 S. Alaska with the family of my gr grandmother Ruth W. Davis b. Mar. 7, 1893. I have not found a record of there marriage. They had 3 children Clyde B. (my grandfather) b. May 19, 1909 in Tacoma, however Charles and Clyde are not listed on the 1910 census as living with Ruth and her family. Mildred R. b. Apr, 30, 1914 Seattle and Doris b. Sept. 25, 1915 Seattle. Ruth W. married Walter W. Mills 1919 the marriage return says it is her 1st marriage, and the children's names were changed to Mills abt. 1921. Children of Clyde are Dennis B. (my father) and Bonnie neither had ever heard the Heffelfinger name until we started doing research. In doing research we came across an old scrapbook tied with ribbon, a sticker on the front saying "my sordid past, my fathers side of the family no need to research" inside were a few photo's of the Heffelfinger sisters and a receipt for a niche for Charles Heffelfinger's ashes. This belonged to my aunt Mildred who passed in 1984, her only son died in 1961. Now Charles Heffelfingers death cert. shows he d. June 11, 1939 in Seattle, Ruth Davis Heffelfinger is listed as spouse he was cremated, but his ashes were not put in Woodlawn Mausoleum until Dec. 23, 1971 by my Aunt Mildred. Charles seems to have dropped off the face of the earth between 1915 and 1939. I would appreciate and suggestions or possible scenarios you might have. Some of the other surnames I am researching in this area are Darland, Elder, Davis, Mills, McMahon, and Peck. Thank you for taking the time to read this, Meredith
