Oregon Death certificates are 25 cents from the Oregon state archives which is on the internet and can be ordered over the internet I believe. The certificate must be over 50 years old. If less than 50 years old they are $15 from Vital records and you must ask for the long form not the short form. If you are near enough go to the Sandpoint Regional Archives to find the intention papers of family member. Don't give up here. You may also find the proof of naturalization as well. I was able to get the records for only a quarter and still had time to find other information about my family. It is a wonderful experience.
. Has any one sent for an Oregon death certificate before> Hi Kathie: Oregon has a 50 year waiting period on death certificates. There are a few exceptions but best not count on it. They are available cheap and uncertified on the internet. The death index is not subject to the 50 year rule. Try: http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/reference.html Good Luck. I am going to take the risk to send for one hoping it is the one for my ggrandmother Marie that I mentioned earlier. Having another record with her mother (Grinnell) on it will help I hope. I am looking for Caren Gale Chapman, born 1940-45 probably in Washington. Her father was killed in Korea in 1951 and at that time she and her mother were living in Everett, Washington. Information from the city directories indicates she lived with her mother until 1963-4 when she probably married. Her mother's name was Mildred C. Chapman and she worked at Scott Paper Co. from about 1955 to 1977. It is possible the mother is still living and I hope to contact both of them. Can someone check the Everett area marriage records to see if there is one for Caren G. Chapman about 1962-64? Thanks for any help. John Chapman Austin, Texas

Glad to help a bit. Others might like to know of one of the Other Sunnysides that exist in WA, even tho it is not a town but rather an area well known to Locals - a former major access between Snohomish and Marysville in those so called "Good Ol' Daze" of pre- and post- Depression times! I tried looking in the phone book to see if there is a cemetery in Lake Stevens, but found none listed. Called my bro-in-law who lives there but he's out running around. Perhaps someone "out there" might come up with a site in that area, and I will keep trying. Could your John Carlson have been a logger? Seems I knew of a John Carlson, a patient at Alderwood Sanitorium, Snohomish about 1945. He died there of T.B. I will try to contact a friend who might know more about that incident and get back to you if I find anything. Later . . . . .
