Brigitte, I did not know about 25 being the "age of consent" for marriage in Prussia. Thanks for sharing that information! Ignacy turned 25 in December 1872 and married in January 1873. He didn't waste any time! I know when Ignacy was born, but not where, beyond Russia (perhaps Rypin/Plock). His place of residence at the time he wed in 1873 was Sokoligora (Keise Briesen, Marienwerder). I do not know how long he had been living in Prussia and therefore whether he had to serve compulsory military duty. If he did, and I can find a record, I may learn his birthplace. Does anyone know how to determine if there are records for this area in the late 1860/early 1870? If so, what organization holds the records and how would I contact them? Thanks! But Ignacy possibly had to wait until he was of age. Up to 1876 in Prussia you were of age when you had 25 years. After being of age he did not need a marraige permit from his parents any longer. I have also read that a young man had to prove he was capable of taking care of a wife and family. I have noticed some were even older.
