I have finally gotten a document from my dad concerning my grandfather Max Preuss. He was born Max Karl Preuss on 7 December 1904 or 1906 in Insterburg Prussia. He married Johanne Furmat. I know they ended up in Schleswig. He was a Russian Pow of which I can't fing records. I would like to know if my ancestors can be traced in Prussia or have all the records been destroyed from war? I do know that neither of my grandparents ever came to America. My mother left and ended up in England. I know I have relatives in Schleswig and have tried contacting them, My uncle Gunter I believe passed away recently and My aunt Edith does not reply. I am left to research on my own with the help of my fellow Prussia ancestors and friends. Any assistance would be appreciated. Helen Moyer

Hi Helen, all church records of Insterburg which are still available are filmed by the LDS church, see here: https://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails&subject=386654&subject_disp=Germany%2C+Preu%26%23xdf%3Ben%2C+Ostpreu%26%23xdf%3Ben%2C+Insterburg+%2D+Church+records&columns=*,0,0 First you should determine which religion your ancestors belonged to (Protestant, Catholic, Jewish) to choose the right film. These records/films have some gaps and some end already before 1900. So it's maybe helpful to know that the civil records of Insterburg (which are more detailed than the church records) from 1876 to 1938 are in the Civil Registry No. I in Berlin.
