Greetings John Haase: I received a copy of your posting re: Johann Friedrich Haase from Dieter Sommerfeld. I sense there might be a distant connection to my HAASE family from Prussia. Some data on my Haase family is as follows: My Great Grandparents were Johann Haase and Juliania Ann nee Behnke. I do not have their birthdates but presume they were born circa 1840. Their five known children were born between 1860 and 1886 when the family resided in the area around Thorn/Bromberg, West Prussia. These children are; Ida Haase, born July, 1860 , Ann Martha (known as "Martha"), Maximillian Haase. Both Ida and Max were born between 1861 and 1879), Johann (known in the USA as "John") Julius Haase (MY grandfather) born May, 1880, and Anne nee Haase born circa 1886. We know Ida married Karl Retzke of Hinterpommern while both were in the USA. My grandfather, John, married Clara Grochowske in Chicago, IL and Anne married Mr. "Hintz" in Germany. Anne, Max and Martha are thought to have stayed in Germany with Ida and Johann emigrating to the USA. John and Ida both came to the USA and settled in Chicago. John (Johann Julius Haase) remained in Chicago while Ida later moved to Michigan. The family was Lutheran while in the USA.
