    1. [PRUSSIA-ROOTS] Advice on Narrowing Down the location in West Prussia

    3. Dear Group I have been a member of this group for sometime but have never posted a request before. I have been most impressed not only with the collective knowledge of this group but with the willingness of its members to share. From the advice and links provided by the group members I have been able to locate the possible location in West Prussia from which my ancestors migrated. Now I have hit a road block and am hoping for some advice. Background: The Family names I am researching: Ciezewski/Czyzjewski (and variants) – given names of (I believe siblings) Marian (1845 -?) (my great-great grandfather), Anton (1830) (married Catherine Komiski), John (married Eva Sange), Agnes (who married John Bendyk) Rutkowski Franceska (1948-1901) my great-great grandmother Jan (born abt 1827) (possibly her Father, Marie his wife), Jan R (born about 1857) (possibly her brother) Passenger records from Baltimore indicate they traveled from Bremen They settled in St. Louis. I have extensive records on this family in the US but am having trouble connecting to the location in West Prussia. St. Louis Catholic Church records indicate that My great-grandmother, Veronica Czyzjewski was born in Marienwerder now Kwidzyn. This is both a city and a province. Her sister, Bronislawa, was born in Skarlin Franceska, their mother, my great-great grandmother, was born in Peterwice. The Problem From the Shetlseeker site (recommended from one of this group) I have discovered that the City of Marienwerder is about 15 miles from Skarlin. So I thought that maybe my relatives came from the province of Marianwerder. However Skarlin is in Skarlin Province. Then there are no Peterwice. There is a town once called Gross Peterwitz within 15 miles of Marienwerder City. FamilySearch.org has not been of help in locating the any of the above. I am confused as to how to tackle this problem. I had expected to find one place from which my family came. But it is apparently not the case although I can not believe that they moved around that much! And with such distances between locations! Does anyone on this list know the region and could give me some help sorting all this out. I would also appreciate any advice on which records to search. Thank you for any help provided Sue Squires
